| | Paatos Silence Of Another Kind CD Paatos Discography of CDs
Most female-led goth metal acts tend to sound quite a bit like the two poles of the style, Nightwish's "Stevie Nicks goes black metal" vibe or Evanescence's considerably more pop-oriented style. Sweden's Paatos split the difference, avoiding both the commercial sheen of the latter and the Euro-metal clichés of the former; as a result, Silence of Another Kind sounds like nothing so much as a really good late-era Siouxsie and the Banshees record. Pertonella Nettermalm's attractively chilly, low-toned murmur of a voice is the band's most appealing feature, and her cello blends with Richard Nettermalm's musical saw and Johan Wallén's Mellotron and harmonium to create neo-psychedelic atmospheric touches around the songs' goth rock drones. "Your Misery" and "There Will Be No Miracles" (which sounds bizarrely like the Cardigans' less twee side) are particularly strong, catchy dark-pop songs, but the album as a whole is a surprisingly effective meld of pop hooks and moody posturing. ~ Stewart Mason

| | An Evening with John Petrucci and Jordan Rudess CD (2000)
Silence Of Another Kind CD music
$10.29 Evening with John Petrucci & Jordan Rudess is an unheralded recording by Dream Theater and Liquid Tension Experiment alumnus John Petrucci, and Jordan Rudess is a unique entry in the Dream Theater family discography. Recorded live in Nyack, New York, the duo performed a mixed set of acoustic and electric (guitar only) compositions. Both players are world-class musicians, but Rudess in particular demonstrates his well-rounded skills, proving why he is an in-demand session player for the likes of David Bowie and Paul Winter. Petrucci too is a fine musician, but lacks the harmonic and rhythmic sophistication to serve as a strong ...

| | Muse Hullabaloo Soundtrack CDs (2002) (Import) Bonus CD; Australia; Netherlands
Silence Of Another Kind album
$14.45 Critics say that Radiohead is best, but Muse is equally passionate and mad when it comes to delivering a raw rock sound. The Hullabaloo Soundtrack arrived after only two albums -- 1999's Showbiz and 2001's indie smash Origin of Symmetry -- and it's an ambitious move for the band. Hullabaloo captures Muse live in concert at Le Zenith in Paris in October 2001 on disc two. Frontman Matthew Bellamy howls and halloos through classics like "Muscle Museum" and "Citizen Erased." His bandmates provide a tight, grunge-inspired rhythm section; however, Bellamy's vocal anguish is painfully romantic -- think Jeff Buckley and more conservative Thom Yorke. Theatrics do take over Muse's overall live show. One cannot ignore the sinister string arrangements of "Space Dementia," but newer cuts like "Dead Star" and "In Your World" showcase the band's original rock intent. No vocal mimicry, no electronic distortion. Disc one offers ...

Silence Of Another Kind CD music
$14.79 1998's Hush Little Robot is the most comprehensive and easily available release of Bruce Haack's pioneering electronic music. This German collection culls its track listing from his middle works, emphasizing 1969's rock concept album Electric Lucifer, and the 1974 children's album This Old Man. The result is a mix of robotic nursery rhymes and dark, psychedelic, electronic rock;:the two extremes of Haack's repertoire. Hush Little Robot's lighthearted tracks, like "School for Robots," "This Old Man," and "Thank You" feature banjos ...

Silence Of Another Kind songs
$11.75 In Dead Meadow's universe, the wah-wah pedal is just as important as the guitar itself, and both are clearly more important than any sort of vocals. In fact, at first listen, singer/guitarist Jason Simon's barely audible whine puts the band's eponymous debut in some jeopardy before it has a chance to get underway. Coupled with the all-too-sluggish haze through which early tracks "Sleepy Silver Door" and "Indian Bones" slowly drift into focus, it may scare off many listeners before they can discover the secret of Dead Meadow's true appeal. First hinted at by the sweet, acoustic simplicity of "At the Edge of the Wood" (where the singer redeems himself with a gentle, much more effective Neil Young-like delivery), this subsequently takes shape via Simon's inspired guitar work. Displaying a subtle but nevertheless formidable control of tone and feedback, the ...
