Liner Note Author: Jacob Edgar. Illustrator: Nicola Heindl. Translator: Julien Massardier. Lovingly compiled as expected, Putumayo's Music from the Wine Lands collects 13 tracks from the world's premier grape-growing regions and includes extensive liner notes -- in Spanish, French, and English -- that delve into both the artists and the local wines. Putumayo finds a nice balance between budding contemporary artists like Australian jazz/Celtic folk duo Stringmansassy and veterans such as lauded Greek singer Vicky Moscholiou. With a backbone born of bossa nova and samba, "laid-back and breezy" constitutes the overall vibe here, with highlights coming from French singer/songwriter Pauline Croze, Portuguese fado master Jorge Fernando, and Argentinean chameleon Melingo, whose smoky "Sin Luna" sounds like an unholy marriage of Paolo Conte and Tom Zé. ~ James Christopher MongerDirty Linen (p.59) - "Highlights include vintage Californian New Grass from Alison Brown, the smoky Greek flavor of Vicky Moscholiou's deep and resonant voice, and the classic bouquet of Pauline Croze's sophisticated jazz." $14.29 Revenge: Peter Hook (bass, vocals); Chris "CJ" Jones (guitar, vocals); Dave Hicks (keyboards, vocals). Peter Hook is a member of New Order. New Order has been one of the most successful British musical imports since "Blue Monday" stormed American dancefloors in 1983. After a series of successful albums such as Low-life (1985), Brotherhood (1986), and Technique (1989), the band took an extended hiatus in the early '90s, with each member pursuing solo projects. Vocalist Bernard Sumner teamed up with the Smiths' Johnny Marr to form Electronic, Gillian Gilbert and Stephen Morris recorded under the moniker the Other Two, and bassist Peter Hook released One True Passion in 1990 as a member of Revenge. Each of the New Order side projects took a decidedly different route. Sumner's Electronic was essentially a variation of New Order's catchy blend of dance and rock, ...

Music From The Wine Lands
$15.19 “A musician like Chris Norman comes along, oh, perhaps once in a century. He’s the kind of player whose virtuosity serves the music without becoming the performance itself; whose exceptional technique not only is of the “he’s so good he makes it sound easy” variety, but also frees the music to reel out as if it, the instrument, and the player were one communicative entity. ” -- CD Review“. . .Norman stands out for his spirited eclecticism . . . His rootsy heritage shines through in every nuanced embellishment, trill, triple tonguing, and silky slide. It’s clear that Norman is having a ball, with the chops to make it sound effortless.” -- Billboard Magazine“ . . .a flute player of spectacular & imaginative virtuosity” -- The New Yorker Magazine“A flute superstar . . .the musicianship just came wailing out” --Toronto Globe & Mail“The finest wooden flute player in the world . . .and few that have heard him play would dispute that description.” — Halifax Mail Star" . . .The Chris Norman Ensemble wondrously demonstrated that classical and folk need not necessarily be separate entities at all. They can intertwine to enchanting effect . . .Norman's agility with his wooden flutes was exceptional, as was his way of conveying the expressive heart of each piece. He has formed a marvelous ensemble of like-minded musicians." -- Cleveland Plain Dealer“ . . .one of music’s most talented performers. Norman is certainly a special musician. In solos or accompaniments, Norman brilliantly spun out delicate phrase after phrase, bridging the centuries-wide gap to make the music ours. . . With whoops ...
