Prophecy songs
$16.65 Ever since our primitive ancestors emerged from the primordial ooze and learned to walk upright, men have been going crazy over women, and once some caveman who could carry a tune invented music, they've been singing songs about them. As a consequence, one could easily compile a large and quite enjoyable box set of songs written in tribute to various members of the fair sex, and while the folks at Ace Records haven't gone quite that far, Girls! Girls! Girls!: A Yearbook of Dream Dates 1955-1965 does offer 28 songs that rock at various degrees of intensity as singers croon, warble and howl about the gals on their minds. The mood of these tunes ...
| | Rolled Gold+: The Very Best Of The Rolling Stones CDs (1975) Import
Prophecy album
$20.95 Stupendous 2007 two CD reissue of this collection from the greatest Rock 'N' Roll band in the world. Expanded from it's original 1975 tracklisting, Rolled Gold gathers together 40 of Mick, Keef and Co.'s best ABKCO recordings beginning with their cover of Chuck Berry's 'Come On' and ending with the acoustic majesty of 'Wild Horses'. In between, you'll find some of Rock's finest musical moments including 'Let's Spend The Night Together', 'Sympathy For The Devil', 'Gimme Shelter', 'Time Is On My Side', 'Honkey Tonk Women', '(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction' and many more. Rock music has had many peaks and valleys, but the Stones have continued to roll for over four decades and their reputation is based on each and every one of these recordings. UMTV.
When Rolled Gold was initially released in 1975, there was no shortage of Rolling Stone compilations -- hell, there were two others released that year, the useful Decca/London-era rarities compilation Metamorphosis and the slapped-together Rolling Stones Records singles comp Made in the Shade, containing the American singles released on Rolling Stones Records in the early '70s, along with assorted album tracks. Designed for the U.K. market and never released in America, Rolled Gold split the difference between the two, rounding up all the big hits they had on Decca/London. At 28 tracks and two LPs, the collection offered a lot of bang for the buck and it was an enormous hit in the U.K., yet it never made it onto CD -- and, in a way, it didn't really need to, as the CD era brought lots of excellent compilations, ranging from reissues of the Hot Rocks sets to the three-disc 1989 box The Singles Collection: The London Years to 2002's Forty Licks, which offered a double-disc overview of their entire career. In light of these, a reissued Rolled Gold didn't quite seem necessary, but it eventually did surface, making it into stores just in time for the 2007 holiday season. This edition of Rolled Gold is pumped up with 12 tracks, making it 18 tracks shorter than The Singles Collection -- about a disc shorter, which is appropriate -- and it largely fills in the gaps with American singles like "Tell Me" and album cuts that have become Stones staples, along with extending the running length into 1971 with "Brown Sugar" and "Wild Horses," the two early Rolling Stones Records singles that wind up on every ABKCO comp. Although it's hard to imagine who doesn't have this music in their collection already, this expanded Rolled Gold is nevertheless a good compromise between the original ...
| | Creole Zydeco Farmers My Big Foot Woman CD (2007)
Prophecy CD music
$16.45 Creole Zydeco FarmersMy Big Foot WomanSONO 1068 The solid set of zydeco dance grooves here on My Big Foot Woman was recorded in 2004. But, in the very best sense, this album could have been recorded in 1974. (Or another twenty years earlier, apart from one song, "Zydeco Lady," that's a Creolized interpretation of a mid-Seventies disco hit.) That's because The Creole Zydeco Farmers work within the glorious cultural time-warp that distinguishes so much good music in South Louisiana. Their style and repertoire, with its rural rough edges and exuberant imperfection, harkens back to the 1950s. That was when Clifton Chenier forged contemporary zydeco, setting the standards that still prevail today. Chenier did so by combining countrified Creole folk roots and Afro-Caribbean rhythms with the then-hippest new sounds in African-American popular music: blues, R&B, and swing. The hit-makers of the day included Ray Charles, Louis Jordan, B. B. King and Fats Domino. Clifton Chenier adapted their music to the piano accordion, sang their lyrics in Creole French and voila zydeco! Throughout the ensuing half-century, zydeco has continually absorbed new trends from the African-American mainstream. Sixties soul and Seventies/ Eighties funk gave way to the rap and hip-hop influence that persists today. But there is still a core group of veteran musicians who maintain a classic Fifties sound, with few if any modern frills. The British music journalist John Broven aptly described this sound as "serenely unspoiled." And the reigning elder statesmen in such serenely unspoiled circles are The Creole Zydeco Farmers. The Farmers formed in 1989. Most of the members came from the recently-disbanded ...
