| | Jimmy Cliff Harder They Come CD (1972) Remastered
Can Can CD music
$10.39 The 2003 Deluxe Edition of THE HARDER THEY COME includes a bonus CD of early reggae tracks recorded between 1968 & 1972, rare photos and original artwork.
Originally released on Mango SMSAS (7400). Includes liner notes by David Katz.
The soundtrack to the groundbreaking film about Jamaican subcultures, this superb selection is also a synthesis of late 60s and early 70s reggae. Recordings by Jimmy Cliff, the movie's star, form the album's core and his contributions, notably 'Many Rivers To Cross', show his understated power to great effect. An important figure in the development of reggae, Cliff at last secured deserved acclaim with this collection. His work is ably supported by 'Pressure Drop', one of the finest songs the Maytals ever recorded, while the Melodians and Slickers prove equally strong. The latter's 'Johnny Too Bad' perfectly encapsulates the film's plot, one that helped launch reggae into the international arena.

| | Bob Marley Soul Rebels (1970)
Can Can music CDs
$16.09 Licensed from its original label (Trojan Recordings), this release on Receiver is a reissue of the original 1970 Bob Marley and the Wailers album produced by Lee "Scratch" Perry. The disc is the same, from the track list right down to the sexist commando cover art, and these imminently groovy, R&B-flavored pop gems show no signs of wear.
Marley's compositions from this period, though often overlooked, are excellent. Such tracks as "Try Me," "It's ...

| | Sean Paul Dutty Rock CD (2002)
Can Can album
$10.99 DUTTY ROCK won the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album. Sean Paul was nominated for Best New Artist. "Get Busy" was nominated for Best Male Rap Solo Performance.
Though he'd released successful singles earlier, Jamaican toaster Sean Paul became a full-blown international dancehall reggae sensation with his 2000 full-length debut STAGE ONE. Picking up where that album left off, DUTTY ROCK dips into hip-hop production techniques in addition to the usual dancehall tricks, providing a unique framework for Sean's visceral, rapid-fire raps. Amid all the modern production, "I'm Still in Love with You" (not the Al Green tune) finds SP dipping into the roots-reggae trickbag, with vocal assistance from Sasha. And unlike some of his contemporaries, he's not without a sense of humor. The introductory skit, which finds him hilariously at ...
| | Bob Marley Live At The Roxy CDs (2003)
Can Can CD music
$15.09 Recorded live at The Roxy, Hollywood, California on May 26, 1976.
Bob Marley and the Wailers were on tour promoting their newly released album, Rastaman Vibration, when they arrived at the Roxy nightclub in Hollywood, CA, for a performance on May 26, 1976. At the height of their early American fame -- Rastaman Vibration would become their only Top Ten album in the U.S. -- they were also a seasoned concert act. They played the same songs featured on their compelling album Live! (a U.K. hit not yet released in America at that time), plus songs from their new record, before a small audience that combined acolytes with industry figures. In 2002, when Island Records issued its Rastaman Vibration (Deluxe Edition), the ten songs that made up the main part of the show were included as part of the package's second disc; a notable addition that gave a good sense of the band playing the new material. Of course, you had to buy the whole set to get the show. Here, in a move to alleviate that situation, and also create yet another piece of Marley product, Island put out the Roxy show separately; expanding it to two discs by including the encore, which consists of a performance of "Positive Vibration," ...
