Sonny & Cher: Sonny Bono, Cher (vocals). Photographer: Harry Goodwin. Although Sonny & Cher's music fell to the bubblegum side of pop, the fact remains that Sonny wrote some infectiously good songs, and thanks to Cher's sultry vocals, the duo enjoyed some massive hits. This ten-song set has two of them, "I Got You Babe" and the clever "The Beat Goes On," but unfortunately the rest of what is here is undeniably filler material. ~ Steve Leggett I Got You Babe Music Review Purchase I Got You Babe CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Anne Murray Together/Keeping In Touch CD (1999) Import

| | Glen Campbell Galveston CD (1969) Remastered
I Got You Babe
$5.85 Digitally remastered by Bob Norberg & Rob Christie (Capitol Mastering). This is part of Capitol's Cornerstones series. Personnel: Glen Campbell (vocals, guitar). Arranger: Al DeLory. On Glen Campbell's albums -- By the Time I Get to Phoenix and Wichita Lineman -- the Jimmy Webb-authored title cuts tended to dominate the LP tracks somewhat; good as the album tracks were, they usually weren't quite up to the standard achieved by the AM-aimed title songs. On Galveston, Campbell and producer Al DeLory overcame that problem -- the Jimmy Webb title tune is fine, to be sure, but this time out, Campbell and DeLory no longer felt the need for the singer to cover contemporary rock and soul hits like "Homeward Bound" and "Dock of the Bay," which he pulled off, but not as well as some other songs he might've sung on those earlier albums. On Galveston, he stuck closer to country with some pop embellishments and found a better fit. The result is a smooth, lively, sentimental, and occasionally even ...
| | Glen Campbell Wichita Lineman CD (1968) Remastered
I Got You Babe
$5.89 Includes liner notes by Dan Davis. Digitally remastered by Bob Norberg & Rob Christie (Capitol Mastering). This is part of Capitol's Cornerstones series. Personnel: Glen Campbell (vocals, guitar). Audio Remasterer: Glenn Meadows. Liner Note Author: Dann Davis. Recording information: 12/04/1967-06/12/1968. This disc, a certified double-platinum album, captures Campbell's appeal at his most mainstream, mixing mid-tempo country-pop, spiced by a smooth if unambitious cover of Otis Redding's "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay" and the prettiest version of Tim Hardin's "Reason to Believe" ever done. The latter two make the album hipper than Campbell himself seemed at the time to most of us. On the other hand, there's ample romantic pop here, including his heartfelt, string-laden performance of the McKuen/Brel "If You Go Away" and "Words." Right there at the center of Campbell's appeal is the still-beautiful ...

I Got You Babe
$25.79 5-CD Box;;127 Tracks
Recording information: Atlanta, GA (08/01/1927-12/11/1934); Bristol, TN (08/01/1927-12/11/1934); Camden, NJ (08/01/1927-12/11/1934); Charlotte, NC (08/01/1927-12/11/1934); Louisville, KY (08/01/1927-12/11/1934); Memphis, TN (08/01/1927-12/11/1934). Arranger: A.P. Carter. Fans looking for more than ASV/Living Era's Wildwood Flower collection but scared off by Bear Family's massive 12-disc box could comfortably pick up this five-disc budget compilation. At 126 songs, it covers all of their RCA Victor recordings in chronological order, omitting only alternate takes. The remastering isn't necessarily better than other Carter Family issues -- rather than clean up the crackle, the engineers have simply boosted the sound level, and while that does bring out some nuances, the ever-present hiss is louder than usual. That and the scanty liner notes mean that casual fans could probably do perfectly well with Wildwood Flower, but this music is going to be an outstanding addition to ...

| | Nelly Furtado Loose CD (2006)
I Got You Babe
$10.39 On her third studio album, LOOSE, Nelly Furtado largely abandons the bohemian vibe of previous outings, opting for an energetic, club-ready sound said to be influenced by the time she spent recording in Miami. The Canadian-born singer-songwriter approaches this significant change with wild abandon, as revealed on the sensual singles "Promiscuous," a remarkably catchy dance-pop tune that features Timbaland, and "Maneater," a leering, techno-tinged track. The percussive "No Hay Igual" finds Furtado delving into reggaeton, while "Te Busque" presents the soulful vocalist performing a melancholy duet with Colombian heartthrob Juanes. Though some Furtado fans may initially be perplexed by this dramatic sonic shift, repeated listens reveal the record's charms, particularly on the ...
| | Six Feet Under CD (2002) Digipak
I Got You Babe
$8.49 Original theme composed by Thomas Newman. Compilation producers: Gary Calamar, Thomas Golubic. "Six Feet Under-Main Theme" won the 2003 Grammy Awards for Best Instrumental Composition and Best Instrumental Arrangement. SIX FEET UNDER was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Award for Best Compilation Album For A Motion Picture Or Television. It might be an easy comparison to make, but the soundtrack to HBO's Six Feet Under bears a striking resemblance to the first volume of music released for American Beauty, screenwriter Alan Ball's other controversial and much-lauded success. Both soundtracks feature edgy-yet-emotive music from critically acclaimed artists, excerpts from expressive scores, and a few well-chosen oldies. Lamb's delicately spooky "Heaven" and Craig David's "Let's Go Out Tonight" fit Six Feet Under's sophisticated mix of wit and emotion, while PJ Harvey's ferociously sexy, messed-up "One Time Too Many" was used to excellent effect in the first episode of Six Feet Under's second season. There are a few pleasant surprises like the Dining Rooms' eerie "Pure & Easy" and Orlando Cachaito Lopez's sultry "Mis Dos Pequenas" and some vintage selections like Peggy Lee's "I Love Being Here With You," Classics IV's "Spooky," and Julie London's rendition of the Troggs' "Yummy Yummy Yummy." Ultimately, Six Feet Under's best and most appropriate piece is Thomas Newman's title theme; its uptight, whimsical, yet undeniably dramatic vibe captures the show's appeal better than anything else on the soundtrack, including the remixes of the theme by Rae & Christian and Photek. ~ Heather Phares It might be an easy comparison to make, but the soundtrack to HBO's Six Feet Under bears a striking resemblance to the first volume of music released for American Beauty, screenwriter Alan Ball's other controversial and much-lauded success.
