If Trustkill really wants to cash in on the pop-punk craze, there's got to be a better way to do it than through New Jersey's Crash Romeo. On their debut, Minutes to Miles, it's like the band has rehashed clichés that have worked well for others but in their hands combine to create one utterly forgettable record. Though the murderous album artwork may remind one of a band like My Chemical Romance, Crash Romeo is actually more like a stupider version of Motion City Soundtrack or a darker, duller, less fun version of Houston Calls. After all, those last two bands use synths to their advantage (adding color and variety to songs), while every synth part on this record sounds exactly the same, almost as if the band merely looped recorded parts over every track. Singer/guitarist Travis Weber has the generic Starting Line pop-punk voice (when his "woahs" don't sound like Coheed's Claudio Sanchez, that is), but no matter, since their addition of a synthesizer makes them unique, right? "Get Up, Shut Up" sounds like Simple Plan with a harder attitude, "Dial 'M' for Murder" throws in random screamo posturing, and though "Die in Your Arms" is a song of power angst, it's "On Deaf Ears We Ride Tonight" that aptly carries the torch for the acoustic, pensive ballad. Even if some fans will no doubt be singing along to Crash Romeo's pop-punk ditties about the bitter end of relationships and hanging out with friends, there's not much to suggest that the band has much else to offer to eventually keep them out of the bargain bin. After all, the hands-down highlight of the album is during "Hang Your Head" when Weber proclaims, "I will draw a map straight to your ass/so you can finally get/get your head back." Pop-punk may be overplayed by 2006, but there are still plenty of bands out there doing it better and more memorably than Crash Romeo. ~ Corey Apar

Countless fans have been introduced to Krishna Das through yoga classes, where his soothing rhythmic chants, preformed in a deep, rich timbre, complement instruction on the spiritual element of the exercise. Only those students inclined toward extra credit, though, are likely to know that the former Jeffrey "K.D." Kagel, renamed Krishna Das after years of studying alongside his guru, Mahara ji, in India, is a one-time rock singer from Long Island, N.Y.
All One, Krishna's ninth CD, delivers inward-looking listeners that much closer to recognizing the chant master's unlikely background on their own, though. Essentially an hour-long melodic recitation of the name Hare Krishna set to accompaniment that ranges from Indian to classical to rock in style, the disc makes use of several rock & roll heavy hitters. Co-produced with Walter Becker (Steely Dan), Jay Messina (Aerosmith), and David Nichtern (who wrote "Midnight at the Oasis"), All One finds Becker on bass, Nichtern on guitar, and Def Leppard's Rick Allen on drums. Which accounts for why, even on more sedate tracks, a certain rock energy seeps through. That Krishna Das manages that influence without allowing the disc to become a mongrelized slab of meditation-lite -- it's quite listenable in a head-clearing sort of way -- is a testament, maybe, to the concept that his burnished, entrancing voice comes from a place purer than most. ~ Tammy La Gorce

The group Ctrl-Alt-Del usually comes as a surprise to many reviewers as it just doesn't fit the stereotypical image one would expect from an independent Alternative Rock band from Eastern Europe.The band started in 2002 when vocalist Adam Sypula met Dominik Rozwadowski and the twins Peter and Pawel Sitkowski, who were in the midst of creating a new project on the remains of their former group Musick. The outcome was a great concoction of personalities. "After a few months of playing, out of the blue, we had an album ready for the making", says Dominik. "We all felt that Adam's unique voice opened the door for us to explore new areas of music. For the first time we knew that we were on a quest for sound."The final stage of shaping the band's sound took place in the recording studio. "We basically wanted to achieve a modern Rock sound rooted in heavy guitar riffs and massive rhythm section", explains Dominik. "Our producer Marcin Bors embroidered our album with a bunch of samples and electronic sounds which was exactly what we had envisioned." And it worked!"Wow what a blast this is folks!
