| | Balfa Brothers Play Traditional Cajun Music: Vols. 1 & 2 CD (1987)
Hotel music CDs
$13.59 Originally released on Swallow (6011) in 1965 and Swallow (6019) in 1974. Includes French and English translations.
If you want to go straight to the source and hear real Cajun music without any hint of crossover, look to the Balfa Brothers. Though they were a popular live attraction as early as 1948, Dewey, Will, Burke, Harry, and Rodney (with assistance from family friend Hadley Fontenot on accordion) didn't record their first LP until 1965. Their second followed a full nine years later. Both are included on this seminal Cajun disc, and the purity of the group's performances is stunning.

$14.19 Amanda Wilson2006Amanda Wilson has been singing as long as she could talk. Performing at venues from informal family get-togethers to beauty contests, she fell in love with music before she knew what hit her. It was a part of her heritage, growing up in the Blue Ridge Mountains, where folk music is prevalent and she in particular was brought up singing in church. At the age of five, she was performing skits and singing in beauty contests. By 13, having experience in both winning and losing junior talent contests, she was receiving requests to bring her talents and unique style to events and private parties. She had developed into quite the entertainer, and was falling deeper in love with every note.It was soon that she met manager Buddy Carpenter, who serves as a major energy source behind Wilson's career. The partnership grew through the recording of three independent CDs, pitching to numerous labels, a four month radio tour, a concert tour with Amanda and 'The Old Hat Band', as well as many other conventions and shows in the Southeastern US. Amanda was able to maintain what was going on in her career along with a high school GPA above a 4.0. After graduation, she moved to Nashville to attend Belmont University's School of Music Business. Before the end of the first semester, she had signed her first recording contract with DreamWorks Nashville. She was able to collaborate with numerous writers and producers and establish solid relationships. Wilson has appeared on Tennessee Mornings with Charlie Chase, ...

| | Kovenant Animatronic CD (1999) (Import) 24 Bit Remastered; Limited Edition; Digipak; Germany
Hotel album
$14.59 Sporting a retooled lineup and a new name spelling (in order to avoid confusion with the Swedish band Covenant), Kovenant moves toward the '90s mainstream with their sophomore album, Animatronic. While the sound is obviously rooted in the Norwegian black metal scene from which most of the band's members came, the album goes off in several different directions, often within the same song: more accessible, ...
