Since most of their songs were short, snappy numbers, the Buzzcocks' early material was custom-made for the stage, and the 2005 release Small Songs with Big Hearts certainly reinforces this point. Recorded in 1979 at the Rainbow Theatre in London, this high-energy 17-track set was previously available as disc one of the 2001 double-disc release Beating Hearts/Small Songs with Big Hearts. Jazz Pianist John Nam was born in Seoul, Korea in 1979, moving to Roslyn, New York, in 1993 as a middle schooler. He graduated from Cornell University music program in 2002 and earned his Master's degree in Jazz Improvisation from the University of Michigan in 2004. He's played with many great Michigan jazz bands, including the Paul Keller Orchestra, Vincent York's Young New York Force, the Diego Rivera Quartet, the Jeremy Kittel Quartet, Urban Transport and Tumbao. John Nam has been seen on Detroit and Ann Arbor TV shows with the Jeremy Kittel Quartet. Recently, he had a successful concert tour in Seoul, Korea with his quartet, featuring Jeremy Kittel, Andrew Kratzat and Chad Hochberg. During this tour, John Nam Quartet performed on a Korean national TV music show "Yoon Do-Hyun's Loveletter" and also performed at "Once in a Blue Moon", the most prestigious jazz club in Korea. "John Nam has a great sense tonal sense, smart phrasing and emotional urgency in his playing - all in evidence on his debut offering for PKO called 'Energy and Angular Momentum'.
