(1 Customer Review)
The Austin country outfit's first album after the departure of lead singer and founder member Tony Villanueva may not possess the smooth country charm of former years, but it still rocks mightily on tracks like "Get 'Er Done," and sways convincingly on the Burritos-like "It's Never Too Late for a Party."

Dirty Linen (p.85) - "Lead singer-guitarist Brian Hofeldt and crew find new purpose to their Beatles-by-way-of-Bakersfield sound with the help of rockabilly legend Buzz Cason..." No Depression (p.116) - "On Cason's classic 'Soldier Of Love', they combine blue-eyed soul and country via Hofeldt's passionate vocals. The band also rocks more frequently than it has in the past..." Soldiers Of Love
$9.29 For their first full-fledged major-label album, the Derailers teamed with producer Dave Alvin -- a legend in Americana circles -- and crafted another fine, straight-ahead country record in Full Western Dress. The group never makes any apologies about being an unabashed traditionalist honky tonk group, equally comfortable with twangy Bakersfield, gritty honky tonk, and western swing. It's easy to spot the group's influences, from Buck Owens to Dwight Yoakam (or even the Beatles on the Merseybeat singalong of "Just to Spend the Night With You"), but the key to the record's success is that the Derailers never become mired in tradition, they simply play the music as ...

| | Dwight Yoakam Blame The Vain CD (2005)
Soldiers Of Love
$14.19 Dwight Yoakam is the Baskin-Robbins of heartbreak, turning out more variations on classic lovelorn themes than anyone might have thought possible. As he's done dependably since the mid-1980s, the man who put New Traditionalism on the country music map brings the Buck Owens/Merle Haggard sound into the present, with occasional rock and blues touches. Yoakam reaches even further back on the mournful ballad "Lucky That Way," building on a classic Hank Williams-style template. But he can be unpredictable as well; the anomalous intro to "She'll Remember," awash in synthesizer and jokey British accent, could have slipped off a Blur album, and the wide-screen strings-and-tympani drama of "The Last Heart in Line" finds Yoakam dipping into Roy Orbison territory. In lesser hands, the catalogue of emotional ...

Fittingly, the title of their debut CD, "Quenarimba", combines the names of their primary instruments, the quena, a traditional ...
