| Rican/Struction Music Review Average Rating: (4.7 out of 5 stars) best salsa album ever The defintion of salsa is vague and often disputed. If rican/struction is salsa than it is the best salsa album ever. If salsa means dance music, than this might not be salsa because it is not very danceable. It also has a strong jazz influence, so it might not be salsa for that reason. Most of the songs are very romantic, so it might be Bolero rather than Salsa. It's a tough album to categorize and this album tends to be more popular with people from the spanish caribbean rather than outsiders with an interest in salsa dancing. While not everyone will like this album, they should. Submitted by brian (los angeles, CA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.

Rican/Struction Ray Barretto's best latin recording of the late 1970's. Well written
arrangements by Oscar Hernandez, Eddie Martinez, Gil Lopez and Dick Mesa. If you are a fan of Ray Barretto or new to his salsa work on the Fania label, this is Barretto at his best!

Rican/Struction music CDs
$10.99 Much like 2001's SONGS I HEARD and 2004's ONLY YOU, 2009's YOUR SONGS finds vocalist/pianist Harry Connick, Jr. coming up with an urbane, passionate set of American popular standards and contemporary pop classics that he both performs and orchestrates. While his previous recordings leaned toward the classicist side--ONLY YOU featured songs of the '50s and '60s--YOUR SONGS features a more eclectic mix of standards and pop songs, with Connick's own lush orchestration lending an overall aesthetic of languid romanticism. To this end, Connick turns Billy Joel's "Just the Way You Are" into a kind of Herb Alpert-inspired ...

| | Evan Parker House Full Of Floors CD (2009)
Rican/Struction album
$12.78 On an inside panel of the booklet for House Full of Floors, Evan Parker's second release for John Zorn's Tzadik imprint (and his third album of 2009), he writes simply of the session as if framing a poem: "The plan was to / record the trio. / Aleks Kolkowski / came to make some / wax cylinder recordings / and he stayed / to play some / quartet pieces." The truth of the matter is, this is hardly disingenuous. The recording actually sounds exactly like its description. Parker, guitarist John Russell, and bassist John Edwards are featured on the majority of this beautiful set in a series of trios and duets that are knotty, subtle, and deeply intuitive improvisational pieces. Kolkowski joins them on a Stroh viola, the saw, and wax cylinder recorder on two tracks as well. Parker's signature as an improviser is immediate. Whether it's a series of single-note lines and phrases or tonal clusters rushing out of his tenor or soprano, the control is total. A prime example is "Ca-la-ba-son," an 11-minute trio ...

Rican/Struction music CDs
$13.85 On the first of two Circle CDs taken from Lang-Worth Radio Transcriptions that feature Boyd Raeburn's Orchestra, Raeburn's transitional band is well showcased. Succeeding his undocumented sweet orchestra of the late '30s and preceding his radical 1945 group, this big band essentially played advanced swing with most arrangements contributed by Eddie Finckel or George Williams. There are some dated vocals by Don Darcy and a couple from Marjorie Wood (including "Who Started ...
