| | George Thorogood Hard Stuff CD George Thorogood Discography of CDs
(5 Customer Reviews)
On his 2006 outing, THE HARD STUFF, veteran singer/guitarist George Thorogood leads the Destroyers through a set of typically rough-and-tumble blues-rock. Mixing revved-up originals (the tough-as-nails title track and the humorous "I Didn't Know") with well-chosen covers that range from old-fashioned rock & roll (Fats Domino's "Hello Josephine") to understated lovelorn blues (Jimmy Reed's "Little Rain Falling"), the bar-band hero also settles into a chiming version of Bob Dylan's "Drifter's Escape," which reveals a subtler side of the famously "Bad to the Bone" performer. Although Thorogood lacks some of his youthful ferocity, he still knows what works, ensuring that his loyal fans will be wholly entertained.

Forget the rest, Gimme the Hard Stuff! This collection is by far the hardest, purest form of party hearty music that has ever been compiled!
NO other artist or group can claim to have put a collection together that can capture your heart and keep it racing for an hour straight. Only the Beatles can come close to gathering a sequence of blockbuster hits that will get your attention like "Hard Stuff" and get you dancing, singing and of course, playing air guitar! Isn't that what listening to music is all about?
I am listening to it right now as I write this and can't believe how it has helped me increase my typing speed!!!
Throw away all the Rap, Hip-Hop, and so called Popular music of the year because it's all too soft. "Gimme the Hard Stuff." Submitted by jmangano (Chicago, Il, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | George Thorogood Ride Til I Die CD (2003)
Hard Stuff CD music
$11.49 Fans of George Thorogood & the Destroyers would probably stage a minor rebellion if their man strayed from his well-worn path of bloozy boogie. Luckily, there is no need to take up arms anytime soon, as Thorogood's sound remains unchanged on Ride 'Til I Die. Good-natured, guy-at-the-end-of-the-bar vocals, buzzing slide guitar, and solid American blues-rock are still the order of the day. The album is the usual mix of covers (Thorogood adds only one original, the forgettable "Sweet Little Lady") played with a barroom-friendly wink and smile. Songs like Eddie Shaw's "Greedy ...

| | Joe Bonamassa You & Me CD (2006)
Hard Stuff CD music
$14.45 Despite his statement in the liner notes that "In an era where it is best to play it safe, I chose to take a risk...," there isn't much surprising or risky about young guitarist Joe Bonamassa's fifth studio album. Most of his previous releases have mixed blues covers with his own originals, all played with a rocker's attitude, volume and less-than-subtle approach. This one follows suit and even though he goes on to say that he "wanted to make a blues album, not a rock album that has blues on it," as in the past; it's impossible to claim that he has succeeded with You & Me. That doesn't make this a bad or disappointing disc; quite the contrary, it's a solid blues-rock release and arguably his best work to date. But as early as the second track, an original rocker titled "Bridge to Better Days," Bonamassa takes off on an early Free/Savoy ...
| | Pete Anderson Daredevil CD (2004)
Hard Stuff music CDs
$9.69 Pete Anderson's third solo outing has been a long time coming, and one gets the distinct impression that it's the album he's been itching to make all along. Given that Daredevil is completely instrumental, the guitar geeks already have something to salivate about. But there's much more to it than that. Anderson played the vast majority of instruments, with help in a few places from multi-instrumentalist Skip Edwards and minimal assistance from trumpeter Lee Thornberg and fiddler Donny Reed as well. There's also some string work performed by some mysterious entity know as "the Skipper." If the Latin Playboys were an instrumental country band, they would almost certainly sound something like this. While it's true that Anderson's guitaristry is signature to all he does, he understands dynamic, rhythm, and atmosphere and texture as well. Check the beautifully warm and ...
| | Danny Gatton Unfinished Business CD (1987)
Hard Stuff songs
$13.49 Danny Gatton's album Unfinished Business rated #10 of the Top 100 albums of the 80s by Guitar World Magazine. On that album, he uses six different Fender and Gibson guitars and amps of 1963 vintage and earlier. The material is very diverse. Included is the Les Paul tribute "Cherokee," an eerie version of the Jackie Gleason theme "Melancholy Serenade" and an intricate construction around the Santo and Johnny standard "Sleepwalk," this album deserves the accolades it has received. ~ Tom Schulte
The late guitar virtuoso Danny Gatton was many things -- talented, broad-minded, unpredictable, imaginative, versatile, chance-taking. But one thing Gatton was not was easy to categorize. Those hearing Gatton's work for the first time have often asked, "Exactly what category did he fall into? Jazz, rock, blues, R&B, country, pop?" And truth be told, he was a combination of all of those things. Anyone who hopes to pin Gatton down stylistically won't find Unfinished Business to be any help; stylistically, this excellent instrumental album (which originally came out on NRG Records in 1987 and was reissued by Powerhouse in late 2004) is all over the place. Gatton is a ballsy blues-rocker on "Notcho Blues" (a Gatton original), but his jazz chops are alive and ...
