Lover & The Beloved album
$21.00 Comprised of 18 tracks culled from the singer/composer's first three decades, The Very Best of Enya was pieced together by the artist herself, along with longtime collaborators Nicky and Roma Ryan. Luckily, the trio seems enamored by most of the same songs that the general public is, resulting in one of those rare "greatest-hits" collections that goes deep without depriving the listener of the essentials. With tunes like "Orinoco Flow," "Caribbean Blue," and "Book of Days" in the pot and out of the way, it's easier to appreciate hidden gems like "Cursum Perficio," "Boadicea," "Trains and Winter Rains," and "Anywhere Is." Also notable is the inclusion of "May It Be" and a previously unreleased version of "Aníron (I Desire)," both of which originally appeared on the soundtrack for the first chapter of Peter Jackson's beloved Lord of the Rings trilogy. ~ James Christopher Monger

| | Enya Watermark CD (1988)
Lover & The Beloved CD music
$10.29 One of Enya's most popular releases, WATERMARK is an enchantingly dreamy album, featuring washes of keyboards and ethereal vocals. On the title track, the gentle piano melody mimics the sound of falling water, and Enya's multi-tracked voice cascades over the music like a calm wind on a rainy night.

Lover & The Beloved CD music
$14.09 A heavenly soundscape, SANCTUM SANCTUORUM, Constance Demby's electronic portraits of pious yet romantic devotion, was originally written to accompany the film FACES OF CHRIST. As with Demby's previous works, her strengths here are in blissfully spare arrangements (including bells, harp, male and female Gregorian-style chants) and confident use of silence, pauses, and slow-pacing. These elements, combined with her knack for moving melodies, create a sound that is utterly solemn and yet filled with an indescribable, supernatural joy. Every piece creates a warm, light-filled sanctuary of impenetrable repose that is frequently visited by angelic voices announcing their arrival with hushed incantations or a sweetly sung "Hallelujah." This music is a sure-bet for any purpose that requires turning off the chaos of this world and going somewhere else.
Sanctum Sanctuorum is Constance Demby's companion to Faces of the Christ. ...

| | Clay Walker Rumor Has It CD (1997)
Lover & The Beloved songs
$6.09 Clay Walker is a young Texan with a solid country voice, and on this disc, he's attracted some of that city's best songwriters/arrangers--Tim Mensy and Zack Turner to name a couple. The results are evident in tunes like "One Two I Love You," and "That's Us," a pretty ballad about two lovers whose stark differences are the very things that keep them together.
This is an easy disc to listen to, thanks to top-notch playing throughout and a good mix of up-tempo country shuffles and pleasant slower numbers. True to country form, there are stories in these songs: "Then What" has Walker asking a good friend about the wages of fooling around. Walker even experiments with an island feel in this tune, with steel drums providing a surprising change of pace.

| | J Donald Walters Secrets Of Love CDs (2000)
Lover & The Beloved album
$13.89 Lest the potential reviewer mistake his intentions on the basis of this album's intriguing and provocative title, Donald Walters (aka J. Donald Walters, aka Swami Kriyananda) offers the following clarification in the press release accompanying promotional copies of the disc: "With this music, I was trying to express soul love, love of God, love of God in nature, and a love of God in human beings, not a personal love, not desire, not sex, not boyfriend and girlfriend. I would like the music to stir deep feelings in the listener because that is essential for real understanding." Secrets of Love, then, is an album of instrumental music composed, co-arranged, and co-orchestrated by Walters and played by keyboardist, co-arranger, and co-orchestrator David Miller, flutist Sharon Brooks, cellist David Eby, and harpist Donelle Page that has spiritual and esthetic aspirations. As a sleeve note puts it, "All 18 songs are dynamic tools ...

| | Brian McCree Changes In The Wind CD (2009) Digipak
Lover & The Beloved album
$12.99 Bassist Brian McCree was part of the Boston jazz scene for decades before moving to Hawaii in 2003, though he returned to his old home in 2005 and 2006 to play a few gigs and record a pair of studio sessions for his long delayed debut as a leader. Though McCree is a fine bassist, he isn't one to hog the spotlight, the music is first in his mind. The instrumentation for the opener, the standard "Nature Boy," is a bit novel, utilizing Salim Washington on oboe and bass trombonist Bill Lowe to complement the rhythm section, and Ron Murphy's stirring bass voice, though the arrangement runs out of steam long before the 15-minute mark, something a knowledgeable producer would have spotted, as it makes the track an odd choice for an opener. Better is the engaging setting of "The Breeze and I," blending bop and bossa nova. The remainder of the CD is devoted to originals. The leader's "Soliloquy" is an easygoing midtempo ballad with an understated bass solo. Washington ...
