| | Henry Threadgill This Brings Us To, Vol. 1 CD (2009) Digipak
Smiling At The Broken Bottle music CDs
$12.89 Henry Threadgill has, in the framework of abstract music, been a stalwart, spontaneous composer whose personal sound is near impossible to identify, or certainly codify. A listener who enjoys very challenged music would have difficulty in discerning what is made up or written out. The elusive nature of Threadgill's kind of progressive jazz has to confound even those most oriented to his quirky pieces. Where the quintet Zooid lands in this quirky quandary of pegging a signature sound is subject to guesswork, but it definitely has its own brand of concentrated cohesion. Between Threadgill's scattershot flute and alto sax, the sleek tuba or trombone work of Jose Davila, and Liberty Ellman's thorny electric guitar, sparks ...

Smiling At The Broken Bottle CD music
$14.99 A sequel of sorts to Chris Botti's 2006 PBS special, LIVE WITH ORCHESTRA & SPECIAL GUESTS, the September 2008 event LIVE IN BOSTON found the sartorially splendid cool jazz trumpeter accompanied by the Boston Symphony and a collection of celebrity vocalists. Also available as a DVD, the concert delivers an overview of popular music, with jazz standards like "I've Got You Under My Skin" right alongside "Ave Maria" and Sting's "If I Ever Lose My Faith in You." Chris Botti in Boston features trumpeter Chris Botti along with a bevy of name artists performing live with the Boston Pops Orchestra at Symphony Hall in 2008. Fully documented as a concert film and album, the night is an intimate and soulful birds-eye view of the supple-toned trumpeter who has grown into his role as a virtuoso ...

| | Roger Bryan Engine Hum CD (2007)
Smiling At The Broken Bottle music CDs
$12.65 Roger Bryan is a singer-songwriter from Buffalo, NY. Over the last few years he has been one part of the Old Sweethearts. A band of five that has become known for it's smart song writing and sonic branching out. While the Sweethearts' sound was growing larger and more electrified, Bryan had been writing songs more intimate and folk based. Those songs became "The Engine Hum". "These were in a much different direction than what we we're working toward. The majority of the songs came about in a short amount of time and I wanted them to stay together," Bryan stated. "The idea for the record came together pretty quickly." Within a few short rehearsals Bryan, along with Sweethearts drummer jeff Pietrzak, entered Matt Smith's HI/LO studio and quickly started recording. With the help of some friends they built the songs up from the ground and before long the album was finished."Nothing we did had ever been played before. No one ...
