This is the remastered digi version of the Immolation cult debut "Dawn of Possession". Its classic death metal with crushing guitar riffs, furious speed, rage, hollow vocals and ultra heavy, blasting sound! Here are ten sophisticated, intricate compositions performed with magnificent technique and almost unimaginable brutality. The CD is a must for all true death metal maniacs.
Although death metal is a style quite familiar to metalheads worldwide circa the early 21st century, during its early days in the late '80s/early '90s it was a genre still finding an audience and fighting for respect. An early supporter of this style was New York's Immolation, whose debut release, Dawn of Possession, was issued in 1991 via Roadrunner (back when the label was not yet the global powerhouse it is today). Out of print for several years, 2006 saw the ten-track album reissued via the Metal Mind Productions label. Although it will never go down in metal history as a landmark album ŕ la Master of Puppets or Reign in Blood, Dawn of Possession does show a band mastering a style that would eventually become quite commonplace in metal (growled vocals, computer-precision riffing and drumming, etc.). And the song titles certainly follow the "death metal" guidelines -- especially "Into Everlasting Fire," "Internal Decadence," "Burial Ground," etc. Looking back on it years later, Dawn of Possession was certainly a notable release in what would eventually be known as the "extreme metal" style. ~ Greg Prato
Immolation: Ross Dolan (vocals, bass guitar); Tom Wilkinson, Robert Vigna (guitar); Craig Smilowski (drums).

Dawn Of Possession album
$13.15 Words cannot do this album enough justice. This is a truly glorious metal release, certainly Death's finest hour, and easily one of the top metal albums of all time. The sheer ferocity and emotion that channels through each of the intricate, progressive guitar melodies shatters every low opinion of the American metal scene. When you combine Chuck Schuldiner's shrieking vocals (his eeriest performance ever) with the most talented, cohesive lineup yet, you get the definitive Death album. This album delicately mixes the best aspects of past albums Human, Individual Thought Patterns, and Symbolic and takes them one step further. The album is more aggressive, more progressive, and certainly more melodic. Therefore, when opener "Scavenger of Human Sorrow" kicks off, the complexity of the music suffocates the listener, allowing him no room to breathe. Even the instrumental piece, "Voice of the Soul," requires the listener's full attention so that he can grasp the raw emotion carefully woven within. No "true" metal listener can ignore the fact that Death have carefully crafted the perfect album ...
| | Cannibal Corpse Tomb Of The Mutilated CD (1992)
Dawn Of Possession CD music
$9.89 Released in 1992, Tomb of the Mutilated helped establish Cannibal Corpse's reputation as one of metal's goriest, most vile outfits. Boasting some of the sickest album art and song titles of all time, the band's attention-getting tactics worked perfectly and record sales soared. Cannibal Corpse then became one of the biggest names in the death metal genre -- just as the group's discs and live performances were being banned all over the world. Listeners unfamiliar ...

| | Kreator Coma Of Souls CD (1990)
Dawn Of Possession album
$10.45 Although they remained largely without peer when it came to pure Germanic thrash metal, by the time of 1990's Coma of Souls, Kreator's very successful formula had begun to grow a little tired. The fact that they were coming off perhaps their biggest album yet in 1989's Extreme Aggression didn't help matters, and despite its overwhelmingly solid songwriting, Coma of Souls still sounded somewhat repetitive to all but the most unquestioning of fans. Still, better too much of a good thing than nothing at all, and with their head-spinning musicianship and well-chosen stabs at melody, complex moshers like "When the Sun Burns Red," "Angels of Brutality," and the title song are guaranteed to thrill lovers of technically proficient thrash. ...
| | Morbid Angel Altars Of Madness CD (1989) Bonus DVD; Reissue
Dawn Of Possession CD music
$13.75 It took five years of practice, foresight on extreme metal trends, and a willingness to stand behind lyrical and musical content that are beyond the pale, even now, but with 1989's ALTARS OF MADNESS, Florida's Morbid Angel delivered one of the early classics of death metal. This reissue of the group's second album features a remastering job that shoves the extremity of their music right into the listener's face, as well as a handful of remixes and enhanced video clips, showing the band in all its gory glory in seminal early live performances.

| | In The Nursery Groundloop CD (2000)
Dawn Of Possession music CDs
$16.29 Embracing rhythms as the key sonic signature for this album (thus the title in part), on Groundloop, In the Nursery bring over a bit of their more experimental side from Les Jumeaux to a set of eight songs, nearly all of which have more active, complex drumming and drum patterns than the band has tried before. In many ways Groundloop is one of the most poppy things the Humberstones have ever created, with the trademarks of their work together -- classical arrangements, a cinematic, mysterious mood, and more -- informed by a newer accessibility. The album is also one of the shorter ones they've done in a long while -- eight songs, 45 minutes -- while Dolores Marguerite C.'s singing is similarly focused and straightforward, as can be heard on "Groundloop" itself and "Hymn Noir." The latter is a charging track in particular; not quite a dancefloor number along the line of some Les Jumeaux songs, but still close to it, as the pulsing synth bass work indicates ("Chronicle," delivered in some very lovely Spanish, and other songs use that as well). For all this, the band's sense of artistic reach isn't compromised, and some of the songs easily rank among In the Nursery's most powerful and passionate. ...
| | Skatenigs Stupid People Shouldn't Breed CD (1992)
Dawn Of Possession songs
$10.25 A strange album, this one -- or maybe not so strange in light of the future, but still odd. Whatever bandleader Phil Owen was on at the time, it helped in creating an album that in its own way almost predicted nu metal, though without that particular compressed explosion Ross Robinson brought on the production front to Korn and Limp Bizkit. Instead, it's an uncredited Al Jourgensen effort that, with the occasional samples and general noise level, is pretty well in keeping with his contemporaneous Ministry and particularly Revolting Cocks work, though without the chaotic level of detail expected from those bands. Songs like the catchy ...
