The late Mac Dre's Thizz Nation is a veritable underground empire, and Young Dru's IF I HAD A MILLION FANS, out on Dre's Thizz Entertainment label, contributes to the force of the crew's attack. Boasting stripped-down, funky tracks that merge laid-back California G-funk with mid-tempo Dirty South bounce, IF I HAD A MILLION FANS is a cross section of contemporary rap that serves up both smooth grooves and thumping hardcore. Whether on romantic slow jams ("Everyday") or chest-thumping statements of purpose ("D.R.U."), Young Dru's skills on the mic are sharp, and the overall package should pass muster with fans of Mac Dre and his clique.
It's time for Young Dru to get the attention he deserves now that he's an official member of the Thizz Nation. If I Had A Million Fans album
$13.15 Enter the Jacka. The death of 2Pac in the mid 90's ripped the heart out of West Coast Hip Hop. At the same time a young street poet named the Jacka was honing his skills in the Bay Area Rap game. Always open minded, he was influenced by b-boys and thugs, pimps and Imams. The Jacka has since developed into an established, well-rounded, well-versed emcee in the right place to bring the West Coast some serious attention. The Jacka's music is a reflection of his life. He witnessed the birth of the dope game and the drug war that followed, as the battle was waged in his community, on his block, and in his house. Memories of departed loved ones haunt his mind and soul. His release is to share his experiences through his music. Reality hurts. Rap is the Jacka's medicine. That and some purple. Jacka's success proves his mettle as an emcee. He has been featured on over 50 albums over the past six years. His contributions to the Mob Figaz self-entitled album resulted in over 100,000 units sold. His tour with Yukmouth (of the Luniz), C-Bo, the Mob Figaz, and Tech 9ne exposed him to nationwide notoriety. His first solo release (featuring Too $hort, Cormega, Christion, and Yukmouth) in 2002 sold over 30,000 units. Jacka sold these units himself, in the Bay Area and through shipping to one-stops across the country. Though great support came from the Bay Area, sixty percent of Jacka's sales came from outside of California. The Jacka's upcoming album, The Jack Artist, is sure to satisfy his fans and impress new listeners. The album thrusts its listeners into ...

| | Montgomery Gentry You Do Your Thing CD (2004)
If I Had A Million Fans CD music
$7.15 Montgomery Gentry has repeatedly topped the country charts with an unabashedly traditional brand of country-rock that keeps one foot firmly planted on each side of the genre's fence. Celebrating the classic Southern virtues of unflinching patriotism and small-town pride, the duo puts a positive spin on the redneck-rebel image of artists like Lynyrd Skynyrd and Hank Williams Jr., delivering a sound that's equally at home in the barn dance and the biker bar. On YOU DO YOUR THING, Montgomery Gentry brings its down-home sentiments even closer to the fore. The title track serves as something of a conservative manifesto, with Eddie Montgomery proclaiming his intention to pray, spend money, and engage in corporal punishment whenever and however he pleases. Similarly, "It's All Good" applauds a small community's staunch defense of the simple life in the face of encroaching modernity. Meanwhile, the duo is backed by an earthy melange of raging guitars, booming drums, and weepy steel, all of which lend the singers' sentiments a forceful authenticity.

$11.75 This 2006 twofer compiles Merle Haggard's very first solo ventures, discounting JUST BETWEEN THE TWO OF US (co-billed to Bonnie Owens). While 1965's STRANGERS finds the young Bakersfield country singer still getting his musical bearings, it features a number of excellent singles, including the woeful "You Don't Have Far to Go" and a rollicking cover of Ernest Tubb's "Walking the Floor Over You."
