The exotic big band sound of Kid Creole & the Coconuts was a colorful antidote to monochrome post punk in the early 1980s. This re-release features the band's signature synthesized exotic rhythms and tropically flavored songs like the traditional calypso favorite "If You Want to Be Happy," as well as the barbed "There's Something Wrong in Paradise" and the apocalyptic "Lifeboat Party." Also included among the three featured bonus tracks is the band's show-stopping exercise in Caribbean camp, "Don't Take My Coconuts."

Doppelganger music CDs
$17.29 This collection presents two 1980s albums by the pop/rock group Huey Lewis & the News, and includes favorites such as "I Want a New Drug," "If This Is It," and "Perfect World."
This budget packaging of Huey Lewis and the News' Sports and Small World is a convenient way to compare the group's two most diametrically opposed albums. Released in 1983 to little fanfare, Sports eventually racked up three Top Ten hits with "Heart of Rock and Roll," "I Want a New Drug," and the blue-eyed soul ballad "If This Is It." This album and its equally successful follow-up, Fore, best demonstrate the band's unique ability to mix a skinny-tied new wave sensibility ŕ la the Cars with their own brand of barroom soul. Conversely, Huey Lewis and the News played out the "me" decade on a flat note, releasing the somber Small World in 1988. Hoping to expand the emotional range of his songwriting, Lewis included some socially conscious lyrics and less accessible melodies. What resulted is a less than ...

| | Natalie Howard CD (2006)
Doppelganger album
$11.19 If there's one thing listeners should have learned by now about country music, it's that you don't have to be American to sing it. Shania Twain, Kasey Chambers, and Keith Urban have all hit it big singing pop songs with slightly twanged vocals, steel guitars, and fiddles, and Aussie newcomer Natalie Howard takes the same approach with her U.S. self-titled debut. Howard, however, is decidedly more pop than country. If it weren't for the pedal steel and the fiddle that make their way into some of the songs, that label would be all but indiscernible. Even the drawl that country music begs for can be confused with Howard's own Australian accent (although the decisively dialectically American "ain't" she occasionally throws in is most certainly not) and "I Can't" and "I Want to Get Out" are straight off an easy listening radio station. Like many albums in the genre, Natalie Howard has an extremely produced sound, but it's coupled with earnestness and sincerity in Howard's voice that can't be produced in the studio, and it brings a nice element to the record. Even if she sometimes seems like an overly dramatic teenage girl (in the breakup anthem "You Never Knew Me," for example), she has a few truly catchy hooks, and "Don't Be That Way Baby" could've come straight off a later Sheryl Crow album. Nashville should watch out: the Australians have arrived. ~ Marisa Brown

Shania Twain, Kasey Chambers, and Keith Urban have all hit it big singing pop songs with slightly twanged vocals, steel guitars, and fiddles, and Aussie newcomer Natalie Howard takes the same approach with her U.S. self-titled debut. Besides her foreign passport, there's not much to distinguish Howard from the rest of the pop-country bunch, except perhaps the fact that Howard is decidedly more pop than country, and if it weren't for the pedal steel and the fiddle that make their way into some of the songs, that label would be ...

| | Singlefaze 4 To 6 CD (2009)
Doppelganger album
$9.35 Singlefaze started as a simple idea. Brian Hess, originally the bands front man, wanted to start a project that would last. He had two goals in mind; Make great music and keep Singlefaze alive. Through many member changes and position changes, both goals are being realized. Singlefaze consists of Angela Lopez (Vocals/Viola), Jeremy Driesler (Guitar), Ron Coleman (Bass), and Hess (Drums). It’s current members have been together since July 2007.Singlefaze unleashed an 8 song LP titled “4-6” in May 2008. It utilized 3 vocalists and a heavy amount of viola. They were still trying to figure out exactly who they were, as there had been so many member changes just months before. Says Hess, “It is one of the most difficult things to do (as ...
