| | Mustard's Retreat 5 Miles Or 50,000 Years CD (1998)
Perfect Wreck music CDs
$17.09 Thirty-one years may not seem like such a long time in the life of a human being, a tree or a folk song. But in the fickle world of modern music, where pop stars shy of their 21st birthdays often see their careers dumped into oldies bins, thirty-one years is a very long time. So as David Tamulevich and Michael Hough celebrate their 31st Anniversary as Mustard's Retreat, the same question seemed to burn among aspiring young performers and road-weary old folkies - why you guys?In searching for the answer, one word comes up again and again, the simple word "audience." Everything Mustard's Retreat does on a stage is aimed at pleasing, moving and engaging their audience. Whether singing their own gentle love songs and vivid ballads, telling tall tales or offering treasures from America's vast traditional song bag, a Mustard's Retreat show always feels like it's designed for the people who have come to see them that day, in that coffeehouse, school, concert hall or festival. Audiences sense this from the moment David and Michael hit the stage, are drawn to it like hungry kids to Sunday supper and reward it the best way they know how. They come to see Mustard's Retreat again and again. And again.Spike Barkin, who produces the prestigious Roots ...
| | Lauren Hart Painted Bride CD (1999)
Perfect Wreck songs
$15.19 Lauren Hart songs have followed the journey of self-discovery. Through the most difficult of times, to the small triumphs we often overlook, her music has been the soundtrack for everyone searching to find their own meaning. Lauren’s third solo release, 5 LIFETIMES (Gypsy Girl Records), continues on this path. "I wanted to make music reflective of the time. We all face crisis in our own homes and as we watch the world go by, but somehow we seem to rise to the occasion. These songs are about seeing the beauty that is always there regardless of how your life might look right now." The lyrics of WORDS LIKE WATER tell the story: "where my words are like water, drown you when I say love, where everything is everything you imagined, and its beautiful every time".Recorded by Grammy award winning producer PHIL NICOLO, 5 Lifetimes returns to the organic sound Lauren has always loved. "This music needed honesty, warmth, and soul that you only truly find in instruments that have lived.... acoustic guitars, piano, and vintage gear were key." Her latest CD mixes the best of what a voice can be with classic song writing. Inspired by musicians like Annie Lennox, Nina Simone, Astrud Gilberto, U2, The Police, Nirvana, The Who and World Party. Her influences pay tribute to a lifetime of simply listening.5 Lifetimes is especially important as it marks the 5th year of her remission, having faced cancer. "As a young person you feel so invincible, and while no one ever wants to go down that road, it helped ...

Perfect Wreck music CDs
$11.39 Don't be fooled by the British affectation, the power-pop wha-uh-ohs, and the right-on rock they're rolling; the Librarians aren't from the other side of the pond, nor even the other side of the bay. But these East Bay lads bang out lean and mean pop hooks like they used to play back when Elvis Costello was an angry young man. They don't make 'em like that anymore. It's just the right mixture of flash and flesh, just rough enough to rock but ridden with time-tested hooks and cocky Anglicisms. It's a little like biting down on a peppermint with a mouth full of whisky, but that's not a bad thing. The best tracks -- the faux-curmudgeonly "Peace & Quiet," f'rinstance, or "Rockstar" -- are impishly, irresistibly catchy. When they sing, "Why do you dress like a rock star, when you can't even play the guitar," it's with more than a little wink, because they sound like they're playing at being rock stars just then, and playing the part pretty well. The Librarians create a compelling, new religion based on sweat, musicianship, energy, and fun. And...if you are even thinking of starting a new band based on some macho, hyperactive mix of aggressive posturing and super songs...don't bother. The Librarians have figured out the combination to that particular lock and you would be a pale imitation. The key ingredient? Pick the least macho instrument ever performed within the rock canon (the tambourine) and then play it as if YOU INVENTED THE DAMN THING. Dress all in black, cut your hair in a pompadour that earns you an envious black checkmark in Kevin Sorbo's sweaty, little Badtz-Maru diary, and raise the tambourine in your gloved hand to proclaim, I AM THE CHOSEN ONE, WORSHIP ME. Sometimes it's tough to tell if the Librarians are joking. When you see a man in solid black--down to the leather gloves--flailing around the stage with a tambourine, belting out backing vocals while the guitarist is dressed in a bad suit and applying an exaggerated Elvis Costello tremolo to the lyric "ce-ramic lawn orn-a-ments," it takes just a wee bit of adjustment to figure out what's going on. Particularly if ...
| | Echolyn Suffocating The Bloom CD (1992)
Perfect Wreck songs
$17.09 With a history dating back fifteen years, echolyn continues to develop and redefine a compositional style best described as melodic, harmonic, rhythmic and dynamic - music that is progressive in the truest sense of the word. Defying categorization, while achieving critical acclaim from all around the globe echolyn continues to bend the ears of the world's listeners. The seeds of echolyn were sown in the late 1980's when Brett Kull, Raymond Weston, and Paul Ramsey played in a cover band named Narcissus. In 1988 Narcissus disbanded as the members tired of cover tunes. A year later Christopher Buzby joined Kull and Ramsey to form echolyn, a band that made a conscious decision to focus entirely on original music. Weston soon returned to the fold, and they began recording their eponymous CD echolyn in 1990. Kull, Weston, and Jesse Reyes manned the bass post until Thomas Hyatt joined permanently during the recording process of this first album. "echolyn" was released independently on Bridge Records, and the first pressing quickly sold out. The CD was for a while one of the most sought-after collector's items in progressive rock, fetching over $100 at the Ebay internet auction site. echolyn was a welcome breath of fresh air in that generally lean time for progressive music. In 1992, the band released "suffocating the bloom," now generally regarded as an early '90s progressive rock classic. The album honed echolyn's trademark two-and three-part harmonies with tight, contrapuntal instrumental musicianship, and featured the 25+ minute ...
