| | Adriana Capparelli Pequeno Circo Intimo CD - Import Adriana Capparelli Discography of CDs
For her debut, Adriana Capparelli chose one of the best MPB lyricists to pay tribute to: Aldir Blanc. Capparelli mainly explores the suffering overtones of the samba-cançao, cançao, and modern bolero (which are a perfect vehicle for Blanc's ironic chronicles of the dramatic/insignificant day-to-day urban life), with passages through ballads ("Eu e a Música," with English lyrics), blues ("Patrulhando"), hot samba ("A Nível De..."), and the vigorous pulse of "O Cavaleiro e os Moinhos" (where she shows her strong influence by Elis Regina, who recorded the song previously). The album closes with the title track interpreted courageously and passionately in an a cappella rendition. Surrounded by top musicians, Capparelli confirms herself as an intense, expressive, and sincere artist with this excellent album. ~ Alvaro Neder Pequeno Circo Intimo Music Adriana Capparelli Pequeno Circo Intimo Songs | 1. | Bodas de Prata |

| | Vines Melodia CD (2008) (Import) Australia
Pequeno Circo Intimo
$14.15 The first album from Australian garage-cum-grunge revivalists the Vines post-major label exile (Ivy League picked the boys up from Capitol) continues their increasingly signature take on a variety of stylistic guideposts. If there's an outstanding aspect to MELODIA, it would be, as the title suggests, a continued progression toward Beatles-via-Oasis choral hooks, especially in the aspiring vocals of Craig Nicholls on mid-album cuts like "He's A Rocker" and "Orange Amber." But whether or not Nicolls and Co. prefer it, their most exciting moments are still on actual ragers like opener "Get Out," which recalls the snotty outsider adrenaline of their delightfully reductive 2002 debut, HIGHLY EVOLVED. Melodia offers a short 'n' simple version of the Vines' freewheeling sound, interspersing the fuzz-guitar freakouts that launched the band in 2001 with the measured, melodic songs that help differentiate the Vines from other members of the garage rock revival. Like 2006's Vision Valley, it's also clouded by the specter of Craig Nicholls' mental disorder, which splintered the band's lineup in 2004 and threw its ability to tour into jeopardy. Confining himself to the studio should be good for Nicholls, but the songwriter focuses on brevity rather than craft, halting most of these songs around the two-minute mark without packing them full of dense, bubblegum-punk hooks. When the band barges its way through a song like "He's a Rocker," the result recalls the glory days of Highly Evolved, when ...
