Who would have believed that Greece has one of the strongest and most fervent markets for heavy metal in the World. Not only is it a required destination for any band touring Europe but many home grown bands achieve attention from fans and the local metal media. It is from this hot bed that Wastefall emerged to create two superb progressive metal albums for the Greek label Sleaszy Rider Records. Sensory Records has now signed Wastefall world wide for the release of their third album 'Self Exile'.
While Wastefall has often been compared to Sweden's Pain Of Salvation their music is much more aggressive and dynamic. The band's desire to take their music to the next level led them to Denmark to work with noted producer Tommy Hansen (Helloween, Pretty Maids, Wuthering Heights). The results are quite evident ' 'Self Exile' retains all of the band's trademarks but the music is heavier and more immediate. When you hear 'Self Exile' Pain Of Salvation will instantly spring
Audio Mixer: Tommy Hansen. Recording information: Domenik's Basement Studio; Sound Machine Studio; Vintage Studio. Europe, in the '90s and the 21st century, has seen the rise of quite a few progressive metal/power metal artists who long for a bygone era: unapologetically retro headbangers who worship Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and Ronnie James Dio as devoutly as they worship Yes, Pink Floyd, Genesis, and ELP -- headbangers who are devoid of alternative metal influences and have no interest in emulating Slipknot, Mushroomhead, or Limp Bizkit even though they are in the same demographic. But Wastefall demonstrate that having a strong interest in both progressive rock and metal does not necessarily mean embracing a totally pre-'90s aesthetic. Self Exile (Wastefall's first album for Sensory and third album overall) is best described as alternative metal with strong prog rock leanings and some power metal appreciation as well; for this Greek outfit, the chug-chug of Pantera, Korn, and Tool is right at home with elements of Queensrÿche's Operation: Mindcrime and Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. It isn't that Wastefall have nothing in common with someone like Italian prog metal/power metal virtuoso Luca Turilli; if Wastefall vocalist Domenic Papaemmanouil met Turilli, the two of them could no doubt have a nice conversation about the joys of Operation: Mindcrime and Wish You Were Here (another great Pink Floyd album of the '70s). But stylistically, that Pantera/Korn/Tool element separates Wastefall from Turilli and similar artists in a big way, despite the things they have in common. It should be stressed that this CD, for all its intensity, is never an exercise in harshness for the sake of harshness; Wastefall are forceful, but they are also intricate and melodic -- and their melodies tend to be dark and brooding. Self Exile is slightly inconsistent, but only slightly; the material is generally memorable, and Wastefall's potential is strong. ~ Alex Henderson Wastefall Self Exile Songs | 1. | Intro |

$17.15 After its establishment in 2000 by Guido de Jongh (guitar) and Frank Schilperoort (drums) Devious played numerous crushing gigs internationally. Having released their eponymous EP in 2002, the band signed to Spitzenburg Records and established itself as one of the most promising acts originating from The Netherlands. Subsequently, the year 2003 marked the release of their first full-length album ‘Acts of Rage’. Upon its release the band shared stages with the likes of Cannibal Corpse, Cryptopsy, Suffocation, Vader, Darkane, Crowbar, Aborted, The Dillinger Escape Plan, God Dethroned, Malevolent Creation en Dying Fetus. In 2006 Devious successfully toured Europe with Brazilian metal pioneers Krisiun. This tour, among several shorter ones, introduced the band to countries like Germany, Great Britain, Belgium, Poland, Hungary, Austria, Czech Republic and Slovenia. Devious’ second full-length ‘Domain’, introducing vocalist Coen Tabak, was released on February 1st 2007 by Deity Down Records. Besides 12 grooving death metal tracks, ‘Domain’ featured a professionally shot video of the song ‘Room 302’, directed by Robin van Belzen. The album received critical acclaim internationally by press and metal audiences alike. With this release Devious proved itself to be a first class act in the extreme metal genre. On ‘Domain’ Devious combined modern death metal with the band's original thrash roots in a unique way, keeping the emphasis on groove and variation. In July 2008 original vocalist Arnold Oude Middendorp returned to the fold, and re-introduced himself as Devious’ frontman at Zwarte Cross Fest (NL), where the band was lined up alongside the likes of Merauder, Exodus, Cynic, Moonspell and Obituary. Later in the year, out of hundreds of Dutch bands Devious was selected to enter the finals of the ‘Support Slayer: 15 minutes Of Pain’ contest which had been organized by leading national radio station 3FM and Mojo concerts. At the turn of the year, long time bassist Sven van ...
