Poeira Leve
$13.39 Pink Martini follow the around-the-world-in-a-dozen-songs thrills of HEY EUGENE! with SPLENDOR IN THE GRASS, a mellower, simpler set of small pleasures. These are relative terms, however; the group's music is still well-traveled, with China Forbes singing in five languages (English, Spanish, Neapolitan, French, and Italian) instead ...

| | Shuggie Otis Inspiration Information CD (1974)
Poeira Leve
$10.89 This is part of LuakaBop's World Psychedelic Classics series.
Ignored upon its release in 1974 and celebrated upon its reissue in 2001, Shuggie Otis' fourth and last album Inspiration Information exists out of time -- a record that was of its time, but didn't belong of it; a record that was idiosyncratic but not necessarily visionary. It was psychedelic soul that was released far too late to be part of any zeitgeist and it was buried at the time. Yet no matter what Luaka Bop's grand poobah David Byrne claims on the sticker -- he says Shuggie's "trippy R&B jams are equal to Marvin's and Curtis', but somehow more contemporary sounding...closer ...

Poeira Leve
$12.79 Keali`i was born and raised on Maui, growing up in Lahaina and spending weekends and summers at his grandmother's house in Pa`ia on the windward side of the island. His passion for the language and culture of Hawai`i led him to become the founding director for Punana Leo O Maui, the Hawaiian language immersion school. He also founded his own hula school, Halau Ke`alaokamaile, in 1980 and has won numerous awards over the years. Keali`i is also recognized as one of only five Master Chanters in Hawai`i.In 1994 he independently produced and released a collection of Hawaiian traditional and contemporary songs and chants entitled "Kawaipunahele." His subsequent music ...

| | Quadro Nuevo Tango Bitter Sweet CD (2006) (Import) Canada
Poeira Leve
$15.25 There was a time when doing something experimental in tango could not only result in bad reviews from music critics who didn't understand what you were doing -- it could also result in bodily harm. The late Astor Piazzolla, often hailed as the Charlie Parker of tango, was literally beaten up in the streets of Buenos Aires by opponents who disliked his vision of tango (which was a major departure from the old-school tango of Carlos Gardel, Carlos Di Sarli, Aníbal Troilo and Hugo del Carril). But these days, Piazzolla-minded tango is very much the norm -- and tango enthusiasts are unlikely to resort to fisticuffs even if an artist does something expansive that they don't comprehend. The word "expansive" easily applies to Quadro Nuevo, a European tango-oriented quartet that takes a lot of chances on their 2006 recording Tango Bitter Sweet. This 69-minute CD has a strong Piazzolla influence, which is hardly unusual in the 21st century; the tiny, insignificant minority of people who still consider Piazzolla a musical heretic are ...

| | Michaela Kuzia Never Gonna Look Back CD (2009)
Poeira Leve
$12.15 Michaela comes from a small town nestled in the Berkshire Hills of Massachusetts. She began studying classical piano at the age of 6 of which during moments of being sick of the studying, would make up her own sounds, and sing along. She eventually graduated to opening the age old “fake book†that had remained in the corner of her living room for years and using the words of the tune, she would make up her own melodies. She wrote her first formatted song at the age of 14. “Of course it was about a guy, my first boyfriend, who I was head over heals forâ€-MK. Years later, after taking a bit of a hiatus from her musical studies at Florida State University, she began to play around town locally at the open mic nights, and became a regular with the crowds. "Playing the open mic gigs really helped me to get over the nervousness I had about playing in front of alot of people" -MK. She then realized that she needed to become more versatile and expand her knowledge in the art of songwriting, and for her that meant she needed to apply to the Berklee College of Music. "When I put in my application, I wanted to be as real as I was, I was sick of schmoozing and doing all of this 'touching up' crap that we do when we want to appear exceptional. So my essays were just about me and who I was at that time, and I figured if I was going to get into this school, it was going to be because they liked who I was then and not who I could become someday" -MK. She got in, and went head first into learning all she could about the art of songwriting and recording. After graduating, Michaela took an internship ...
