Three Days Grace: Adam Conter (vocals, guitar); Barry Stock (guitar); Brad Walst (bass guitar); Neil Sanderson (drums, background vocals). The 2006 sophomore effort from alt-metal outfit Three Days Grace holds steady on the muscular guitars, accessible melodies, and dark themes of the band's debut. Fans of the first album will find more of the group's sound--which owes a debt to both Alice in Chains and nu-metal bands like Godsmack--to like here, but a sharper version of it. There is plenty of anguish and ennui in the band's lyrics ("Pain;" "Time of Dying"), but for all of ONE-X's expressions of isolation and pain, the album is eminently listenable, especially when Three Days Grace works a deep, riff-heavy groove ("Animal I Have Become") or unleashes a ferocious stomp ("Riot"). Three Days Grace continue their accessible alt-metal attack of blunt lyrics and crunching rhythms with their sophomore effort, One-X. Thematically based around dealing with the disconnect felt while Three Days Grace were on the road in support of their 2003 album, the music remains catchy despite its lyrical darkness. Not surprisingly, the songs mostly revolve around feelings of isolation, tumultuous relationships, and anguished loneliness -- but through all their misery and confusion, Three Days Grace ultimately embrace the difficulties as merely a part of being human ("I'd rather feel pain than nothing at all" from "Pain"). The band's simple and direct approach owns a certain charm that makes One-X an enjoyable listen, albeit hardly innovative. The bandmembers still have no desire to mask sentiments behind perverse metaphors; just as their 2003 smash single "I Hate Everything About You" addressed a problematic relationship in powerfully straight terms, so do tracks on One-X. For instance -- and just so there's no room for confusion -- "Let It Die" frankly states "I swear I never meant to let it die/I just don't care about you anymore." And the forthright "Riot" ("Let's start a riot!") is one of a few riled-up outsider anthems on hand. But, there are also a number of tracks present that find Three Days Grace adding a few interesting twists to their hard-hitting formula that not only show a gentler side to the guys, but also work out rather nicely. Calming things down a bit, fluid instrumentation and vocalist Adam Gontier's steady delivery make the ominous "Get Out Alive" one of their strongest (though softer) songs, while "Over and Over" employs impassioned strings for an exploration of, yes, dysfunctional relationships. "Pain" finds the band channeling its inner Soundgarden and "Animal I Have Become" has a slight singsongy chorus to complement the track's thick riffing. There is no reason that fans of the band shouldn't embrace this album as the satisfying listen that it is. Some further distinctive qualities could be useful in helping separate Three Days Grace more from their alt-metal peers, but One-X certainly plays as a proficient step in the right direction. ~ Corey Apar Three Days Grace One - X Songs One - X Music Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Pure Greatness, from beginning to end One-X is an amazing album, from the time you hit "play" on your stereo. They have put their first album in the dust with this album. This is among my top 3 cds in my music collection.
Hopefully, when they come out with cd #3, it will be as good as One-X

Can't Get Enough! I never liked Three Days Grace until I heard Pain on the radio. My bro and I were constantly singing it. Then I heard Animal I Have Become and decided to just buy the cd. I cannot stop listening to it! Songs that stand out are Pain, Animal I Have Become, Never Too Late, Riot, and Time of Dying. Buy this cd- it's worth every penny. I am from Slovakia, and this group is not known here. But I listen Never too late in radio this year as a hot new ;) And I love it. So I get all album: One X and also the debut album. And only I can say is - this band is absolutely wonderful. I really fell in love with this Canadian group. Especially, Adam has the most awesome voice I have ever heard. And also every one song from them I heard I definetly love. I also love song I don´t care which Adam did with Apocalyptica. My most favorite songs from all of that amazing stuffs are: Take me under, Burn, Let you down, I hate everything... from the 1.CD and from second: Get out alive, Over and over, Never too late, Time of daying, Riot, It´s all over. but every one other song from them is really very very powerful and beautiful. This band is my most favourite of all time : ) And I fell for them only 5 months before because I didn ´t know about their existence and I am really happy that I noticed them. | | Hinder Extreme Behavior CD (2005)
One - X
$10.39 Hinder: Mark King (vocals, guitar, piano); Joe Garvey (vocals, guitar); Mike Rodden (vocals, bass guitar); Austin Winkler (vocals); Cody Hanson (drums). Released in September 2005, Hinder's Extreme Behavior revives the riffs and misogynistic tone of 2001 albums from Puddle of Mudd and Nickelback for a whole new batch of undergrads. This isn't so much post-grunge as it is straight-up dude rock. The artwork is a triggered response collage of lingerie and Jäger, and the music blares like a stereo left on in the keg room, all swear words and electric guitar blab. Hinder singer Austin Winkler is a stand-in for Nickelback's Chad Kroeger, and his lyrics? Like the chorus of lead single "Get ...

More than five years after its poorly received second album, TIME BOMB, the Los Angeles hard-rock group Buckcherry returned in 2006 with this 11-track outing. Despite only frontman Josh Todd and guitarist Keith Nelson remaining from the band's original lineup, Buckcherry sounds much as it did on its 1999 debut, channeling the Cult and AC/DC through a seedy L.A. filter, albeit ...

One - X
$12.59 This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. Breaking Benjamin: Ben Burnley (vocals, guitar); Aaron Fink (guitar); Mark James (bass guitar); Chad Szeliga (drums). On its third full-length album, PHOBIA, the Pennsylvania-based heavy-rock act Breaking Benjamin offers up another potent round of moody, riff-laden tunes. While "The Diary of Jane" revels in sheer ferocity and recalls Bush, the emotive "Breath" carries echoes of early Tool, revealing that the ensemble is intent on staying true to its 1990s alt-metal forebears. Although these ...

Personnel: Damon Albarn (vocals). Unknown Contributor Role: Steve Power. Blur is loosely lumped in with Britain's Manchester Sound; a kind of '60s-psychedelia-meets-dance-music scene. Unlike others in the genre, however, Blur parks most of the disco influences at the door in favor of hard-edged pop. Leisure's most accessible moments, like the singles "She's So High" and "There's No Other Way," ...
