| | Sean Paul Trinity CD Sean Paul Discography of CDs
Anticipation for Sean Paul's follow-up to 2003's mega-successful DUTTY ROCK was running high by the time 2005's THE TRINITY hit the streets. But fans expecting a reprise of the light, fun dancehall pop that made DUTTY ROCK such a commercial success will be in for a surprise here. THE TRINITY has a much harder-edged sound than its predecessor, and there is little of the buoyancy or melodic hooks that made that album accessible.
Instead, THE TRINITY is produced with the club in mind. Tunes like "Head in the Zone" and "Send It On" are characterized by driving dancehall rhythms, hypnotic rapid-fire vocal cadences, and urban R&B touches that give the tracks a glamorous sheen, with Sean Paul laying down lyrics about sex, partying, and good times that suit the music perfectly for the contemporary club scene. The old-school reggae flavored "Yardie Bone," featuring a slick bounce that recalls Steel Pulse, helps add balance to this edgy collection of slightly less than mainstream dancehall.
International edition of his multi-platinum 2005 release includes a bonus disc featuring six tracks: 'Cry Baby Cry' (with Santana and Joss Stone), 'Break It Off' (featuring Rihanna), 'As Time Goes By' (Original Version) and three tracks from his appearance on Sessions @ AOL ('Temperature', 'Get Busy' and 'Never Gonna Be The Same'). | | Marvin Gaye Master 1961-1984 CDs (1995) Box Set

Stevie Wonder is an unarguable genius. That allowed, a credible case can still be made that the late Marvin Gaye was, pound for pound, the single most talented artist to have come to prominence at Motown Records in the '60s. Gaye, in fact, could do it all. He was a formidable songwriter, a supremely funky studio drummer, a highly charismatic performer, and, of course, an amazingly expressive singer, equally at home with the R&B and soul numbers that made his name as with the earlier pop standards he loved equally.
This four-CD set is the ...

| | Droid Nyc D'N'B CDs (2000)
Trinity album
$9.69 At its worst, drum'n'bass can dissolve into mood music of the worst kind -- an undifferentiated fabric of received beats and prefabricated synth textures designed more to produce a Pavlovian effect in the listener ("Hey, there's that hip sound that I'm supposed to like") than to provide any real musical pleasure. But at its best, drum'n'bass can be a playground of advanced rhythmic and harmonic ideas, one that appeals equally to the hips and the head. With NYC D&B, the quartet known as Droid has managed to create some of the best drum'n'bass in several years, and (if the liner notes are to be believed) did so in a live, completely improvised manner to boot. The ten tracks on this album were recorded over a period of one year during Droid's residency at the Izzy Bar in New York; since the band includes a trumpet player, keyboardist, bassist, and drummer, the sound is quite a bit more organic than you'd expect for this genre, and it also gets quite jazzy at times without ever lapsing into acid jazz tedium. "Poly Bell" works a spare funk bassline under stabs of muted trumpet and jungly drums, creating a final product ...
| | Bob Marley Songs Of Freedom CDs (1992) Box Set
Trinity CD music
$38.49 Includes liner notes by Rob Partridge, Rita Marley, Derrick Morgan, John "Rabbit" Bundrick and Timothy White.
During his all-too brief life, Bob Marley established himself as one of the giants of modern music; he stands on par with the likes of Miles Davis and Bob Dylan, performers who took established musical forms and revolutionized them, who continually evolved their vision throughout their careers. From his first single, the bouncy "Judge Not," through a loose, live rendition of the haunting "Redemption Song" performed at his last stage appearance, SONGS OF FREEDOM documents Bob Marley's musical legacy better than any previous compilation, and probably, better than any likely to come.
Marley was at his peak at the time of his death in 1981, meaning there is no filler or weak material here, only four solid discs of great songs. His philosophical evolution is easily seen: listen to a rude-boy anthem, like the early hit "Simmer Down," next to a later exploration of Rastafarianism, such as "Crazy Baldheads," and eventual statements of pan-Africanism in songs like "Zimbabwe" and "Africa Unite." Musically, Marley's ...
| | If Deejay Was Your Trade: The Dreads At King Tubby's 1974-1977 CD (1994)
Trinity music CDs
$14.65 Recorded between 1974 and 1977. Includes liner notes by Steve Barrow.
Although Bunny Lee first entered the music industry back in 1962, he didn't move into production until 1967. Even as he oversaw a string of hits in the rocksteady age, notably with the Uniques and Roy Shirley, it was the roots age on which Lee really stamped his imprimatur. Carlton "Santa" Davis, drummer with Lee's studio band, the Aggrovators, created the band's distinctive "flying cymbals" sound, and with it the producer's 45s stormed the dancehalls. However, without his own studio, Lee had to be particularly innovative to turn a profit, and the producer's two-pronged solution would change the course of Jamaican music. To save money, Lee utilized the same backing track for a variety of different releases, popularizing "versions," a trend that continues today and has yet to peak. Second, rather than having his band waste time learning new songs, Lee set the Aggrovators loose on Studio One and Treasure Isle classics, reinventing these golden oldies in steppers and rockers style. Recycling, too, remains integral to the modern dancehall. Lee's vocalists happily composed new lyrics for these newly resurrected riddims, but in the end, these innovations favored the DJs, and by the '80s, the toasters ...
