| | Allen Eager In The Land Of Oo-Bla-Dee, 1947-1953 CD (2003)
Chicago Jazz music CDs
$19.35 Recorded between 1947 & 1953. Includes liner notes by Robert E. Sunenblick and Ira Gitler.
In the Land of Oo-Bla-Dee is a fine collection of rarities from the obscure and underrated tenor saxophonist Allen Eager. Eager had a wild career that began with him recording for Savoy in the '40s and later found him dropping out with Timothy Leary and jamming with the Mothers of Invention. This disc features Eager's always swinging sound in a variety of settings. First off are three tracks recorded in 1953 at the Hi Hat in Boston featuring Symphony Sid as the MC. Next is a very lo-fi version of Eager's own high-charged original composition "Some Blues" recorded in 1949 for CBS's Adventures in Jazz program. The song has some typically loud drumming from Buddy Rich that can't obscure Eager's fine soloing. Next up are tracks recorded at what sound like impromptu jam sessions at photographer ...
| | Vandana Bali The Power Of Love CD (2005)
Chicago Jazz songs
$12.15 Vocal Velvet. Luscious. Smooth. Dynamic.Born in India, raised in New York and making her home in San Francisco, Vandana Bali was surrounded by music from early childhood. She sang her very first solo in the mid 70's (accompanying herself on a simple guitar that she made just for the occasion) at her grandparent's party over winter vacation in India at the age of six. She hasn't stopped singing since then. A classically-trained vocalist with a 3-octave range, Vandana enjoys singing powerhouse songs just as much as she loves singing sultry, soothing standards. Her primary influences include Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holiday, Patti LuPone, Sam Harris and Barbra Streisand. Vandana has always welcomed any opportunity to perform before a crowd. She has performed at festivals throughout Europe, at weddings and at clubs in San Francisco and New York. She sang the national anthem at a Knick's game at Madison Square Garden with a select choir while in college. In February 2006, she performed at a local talent spotlight at San Francisco's historic Plush Room, one of the top cabaret venues in the country. In March 2006, Vandana made her Internet radio debut. In April 2006, Vandana performed at Mayor Gavin Newsom's Project Homeless Connect event at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium. In May 2006, Vandana debuted her "The Power of Love" cabaret show to a sold-out audience ...

Chicago Jazz album
$12.49 William White was born on the island of Barbados and grew up on a small farm in the hills overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Mom loved Beethoven ... Dad loved quiet ... William loved to sing. It was the time when a ride through the country roads would be filled with music; Bob Marley and the Wailers booming at the rum shop on the corner, Marvin Gaye out of the window of the house a little further on, Sam Cooke, then Curtis Mayfield and everybody was kung-fu fighting with Jimmy Cliff. It was then, that at the age of twelve, with a borrowed book and his mothers old classical guitar William started writing and singing his own songs. Country music with it s gripping texts became an issue ... Calypso with the beat… His friends at school were listening to hard rock ... And William was singing lead Tenor in The Five of Hearts, an accapella combo doing â€Ĺ"Under the Boardwalk”... Gaining stage experience... As well as writing a few songs of his own. At nineteen, after College, he left Barbados for Switzerland, his mother s home land ... Culture shock...! The Army ... University ...But he was soon singing in and writing songs for up to four bands at once, playing everything from reggae to funk, rock to punk and folk ... William had heard his calling and quit his studies. It was only a little later though, that as front ...
| | Crimson Glory Transcendence CD (1988) (Import) Bonus Track; Reissue; Digipak
Chicago Jazz CD music
$14.59 Unjustly qualified as one of the '80s best American-made progressive metal albums, Crimson Glory's Transcendence is actually one of the decade's best pure metal albums by an American band, period. Sure, they shared many sonic traits with fellow '80s metal bands like Queensr˙che and Fates Warning, but Crimson Glory's songwriting was relatively straightforward by comparison, and generally shied away from ultra-complex prog rock arrangements employed by their peers. In fact, barnstormers like "Lady of Winter" and "Red Sharks" are almost ordinary in their no-frills headbanging intensity, and even the band's more "progressive" material, ...
