$6.75 Also available in a 3-pack with BRITISH STEEL and POINT OF ENTRY.
In the early '80s, a new musical movement, dubbed "The New Wave of British Metal," swept across England. The conspirators include such heavy bands as Iron Maiden, Motorhead, Saxon, and Def Leppard, but Judas Priest is often credited as the originator and leader of the pack. Rob Halford's vocal histrionics and the dual guitar attack of K.K. Downing and Glen Tipton mesmerized metal-heads everywhere. While Priest had been together since the early-'70s, the band's big U.S. breakthrough came with 1982's SCREAMING FOR VENGEANCE.
Like most other metal bands that broke through in the early '80s (Motley Crue, Twisted Sister, etc.), Judas Priest took advantage of the then-developing ...

Keepers Live album
$12.75 Converge's eighth studio album is packed with guest performances by kindred spirits from Massachusetts and beyond. "Effigy," one of four songs on the album that comes in under the two-minute mark, features Steve Brodsky and Adam McGrath of Cave In on guitar and that group's drummer, J.R. Conners, behind the kit. Uffe Cederlund of Disfear takes over lead guitar on "Wishing Well," while Steve Von Till of Neurosis sings on "Cruel Bloom" and Genghis Tron' Mookie Singerman does guest vocals on the seven-minute album closer, "Wretched World." But it's the core group that delivers the most astonishing displays of hardcore fury and progressive musical exploration on AXE TO FALL. Opening cut "Dark Horse," propelled by a Disfear-esque riff so insane it'll make you think your CD is playing at the wrong speed, kicks off a breathless sprint that lasts all the way to the doomy, noisy fifth track, "Worms Will Feed." It's astonishing that Converge have time to put this much thought into their music instead of just cranking out one more rote album, ...

Keepers Live songs
$9.25 Despite this conflict, UNTOLD STORY certainly conveys the Game's full hip-hop prowess, which stirred up such excitement in the West Coast rap scene. The Game's confidence is overwhelming, as he declares himself the best rapper since 2Pac's demise and drops almost every name in hip-hop from Nas to NWA. Fortunately, his rhymes back up his swagger; his style is not complex or ornate, but, like 2Pac, he gets his point across concisely and unquestionably. UNTOLD STORY provides a peek inside the mind of an up-and-coming rapper and stands on its own as a well-rounded record.
Before he signed with Aftermath, shipped platinum, and fell out with the same label in the midst of a major public feud with 50 Cent, Compton MC The Game was taken under the wing of rapper/producer JT Tha Bigga Figga. During the pair's time together, the latter collected rolls of tapes of The Game's early work and compiled it here, giving fans extraordinary insight into the evolution of the lyrically potent rap star. UNTOLD STORY VOLUME II is saved from being a knock-off by the fact that JT is a remarkable producer, and that The Game's capacity ...

Keepers Live CD music
$15.89 Following in the path taken by such performers as Pat Metheny and In the Nursery, French duo Château Flight were commissioned to create a soundtrack to an old silent film, in this case a murky, sensuous series of French films from the 1910s. Without the visuals to directly compare anything to the soundtrack must stand on its own for the casual listener, though, and happily Les Vampires does work as a sprightly modern electronic album shot through with evocations of a lost and distant past. The galloping rhythm on the second track suggests horses and railroads running at full steam, while the squirrelly, nervous radio-signal-gone-strange elements on the fifth song suggest broadcasts from a long distant past slipping through the atmosphere. Other sonic elements call to mind a chronological midpoint between then and now, thanks to the semi-theremin swoops and swirls on the third cut, a miasmic and quite compelling mix of sci-fi noise, lounge grooves and random calls and cries over a deep, thick bass and beat. Guest performer Nicolas Villebrun adds some guitar parts at various points, nothing too out of place with the duo's general work and often a fine complement to everything else in the mix (and, presumably, the screen). The full-on Motorik drive which provides the centerpoint of the fifth song is a perfect example of drama which Villebrun helps with immensely, matching the relentless build of the beats. In all Les Vampires does not sound anything like ...
