Debaser album
$10.09 After the initial shock fades, the existence of CHRISTMAS IN THE HEART seems perhaps inevitable. After all, the thing Bob Dylan loves most of all are songs that are handed down from generation to generation, songs that are part of the American fabric, songs so common they never seem to have been written. These are the songs Dylan chooses to sing on CHRISTMAS IN THE HEART, a cheerfully old-fashioned holiday album from its Norman Rockwell-esque cover to its joyous backing vocals. Apart from the breakneck "Must Be Santa," which barrelhouses like a barroom, Dylan doesn't really reinterpret these songs as much as simply play them with his crackerjack road band, dropping in a little ...
| | Trans-Siberian Orchestra Night Castle CDs (2009)
Debaser CD music
$11.35 NIGHT CASTLE appears just in time for the big 2009 holiday season but don't be fooled: this isn't a Christmas album, even if it's sonically indistinguishable from Trans-Siberian Orchestra's other seasonal releases, and the fact that it's been dubbed "Capra-esque" certainly brings it within the realm of the season. NIGHT CASTLE brims with all the drama, pomp, and circumstance of Trans-Siberian Orchestra's other records but channeling these traits through a newly created narrative does have the effect of hearing it in a somewhat new light, shifting the focus entirely to the band's attack, not ...

| | Shakira She Wolf CD (2009)
Debaser songs
$11.18 Last time around, Shakira touched upon so many styles she couldn't be contained on one album, splitting Oral Fixation in two. This time, she focuses on one sound only: a pulsating electro-disco that crosses all boundaries and welcomes all nationalities. Such concentration behooves Shakira, freeing her to release her inner She Wolf, a wild wacko who's as coo coo as she is carnal. And for as sexy as Shakira is -- crucially, her music is sexy too -- what really gives She Wolf its bite is her inspired nuttiness, how she laments that Matt Damon's not meant for her, and wishes her ex-lover and his new girl a horrible vacation where the room smells and the toilet doesn't flush. "Darling, it is no joke, this is lycanthropy," she sings on the title track with no small trace of humor, and this blend of cheerful weirdness and sick beats -- often supplied by the Neptunes, delivering tough, sensual rhythms in a way they haven't in a long time, but also John Hill and Wyclef Jean -- is giddily addicting, a celebration of all the strange sensuality that comes out at night. ~ Stephen ...
| | Belin All The Way In CDs (2009) With DVD
Debaser album
$13.75 At times, it was hard to figure out whether Berlin were an average synth pop band trying to carve out their own niche or just a mediocre rock band jumping on the new wave bandwagon. Sure, they had some good singles and radio hits, but as an album band, they left a lot to be desired. Terri Nunn was beautiful and sexy, but it seemed like Berlin wanted to be more than just a commercial band with a hot vocalist: they seemed to be striving for greatness but settled for "that'll do." Unfortunately, they never had a chance to really prove themselves, breaking up after their commercially disappointing Count Three & Pray album, released in 1986. Nunn has kept the Berlin name alive over the years, touring with a different group of musicians and playing all the hits while releasing the occasional studio or live album. With a recorded output that seems to dwindle in quality with every release, one might hope that All the Way In would deviate from the standard "live hits" collection and offer up something really special. ...

| | Karmic Brick The Accumulated Blur CD (2009)
Debaser songs
$11.39 Karmic Brick sparked attention almost immediately upon introducing themselves to the internet indie music community in early 2004. The band built a broad and devoted international fan base by unleashing only a taste of what was to come from their debut album, The Unnatural World. The four tracks released, 'Pain,' 'High,' 'Amber Jesus,' and 'Experience Jones,' quickly yielded over 10,000 plays on Soundclick, which also propelled 'Pain' to an impressive two-week stay at #1 on the Soundclick Grunge Chart. When The Unnatural World was finally released in October 2004, critics validated what fans already knew and Karmic Brick's originality began attracting industry attention. Said Colin Lynch of International Online Music Magazine, "the album is immersed in grunge... clever grunge that is, and vocals that go up the walls, around the radiators, across the ceiling and straight down the back of your neck when you least expect them to. This is where Karmic Brick's innovation becomes the icing on the cake along with accomplished songwriting and expert arrangements... it's all totally unpredictable folks...an astonishingly clever album from astonishingly innovative boundary bending writers and musicians."Australia's The Buzz Magazine concurred citing "Walking In My Mind" and "Amber Jesus," in particular, as ...
