Celebrating the heyday of reggae producer King Jammy, this compilation collects the sound system supremo's pioneering "Under Mi Sleng Teng" rhythm as well as many of his other fruitful collaborations, notably with the veteran singers John Holt, Johnny Osbourne, Leroy Smart, and Dennis Brown. King at the Controls songs Jammy's wholesale adaptation of electronic sounds to reggae rhythms heralded the onset of the now-ubiquitous dancehall rhythm, as well as giving reggae a much needed musical shot in the arm--as can be heard on Osbourne's joyful "Water Pumping," and Admiral Bailey and Chaka Demus's reworking of the venerable "One Scotch" toast. | Rub-a-Dub ah dweet! Reggae fan from birth here. The best of reggae music came from the early 80s to the early to mid 90s and this CD captures the heart of this era and time superbly.
