On their 2006 full-length debut, HALLELUJAH SIRENS, Brooklyn-based Dirty on Purpose conjure the sprawling, warmed-over guitar sound favored by British shoegaze bands like Ride and My Bloody Valentine to craft ethereal mid-tempo songs that ebb and flow like a mid-summer breeze. While the album lacks an out-and-out stunner, the layers of fuzzy guitars on cuts such as "Light Pollution" and the driving "Marfa Lights" are hard to resist.Spin (p.77) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "[C]ollegiate, aural wizardry, swinging smartly between noisy rambunctiousness and delicate bedroom pop."
