Starring Humphrey Bogart NTSC RC-0 The boozing, smoking, cussing captain of a tramp steamer, Charlie Allnut, saves prim and proper Rose Sayer after her brother is killed by German soldiers at the beginning of World War I in Africa. Many quarrels later, the two set sail on the Ulonga-Bora in order to sabotage a German ship. Based on the 1935 novel by C.S. Forester, the wonderful combination of Hepburn and Bogie (who won an Oscar) makes this a thoroughly enjoyable blend of comedy and adventure. Later came the book (and Clint Eastwood film) White Hunter, Black Heart, which chronicled Peter Viertel's experiences observing Huston throughout the making of the picture. THE AFRICAN QUEEN was added to the Library of Congress National Film Registry in 1994.
Much of the action was filmed on location in Africa, under grueling circumstances. Katharine Hepburn wrote a book about the adventure, entitled "The Making of the African Queen, or How I went to Africa with Bogart, Bacall and Huston and almost lost my mind".
Screenwriter Peter Viertel also wrote a book on the making of THE AFRICAN QUEEN. His effort, WHITE HUNTER, BLACK HEART, was made into a 1990 film by Clint Eastwood. African Queen: Die Magie Der Steine - Heilsteine Quotes/Excerpts: "Nature, Mr. Allnut, is what we are put into this world to rise above." -- Rose (Katharine Hepburn) to Charlie Allnut (Humphrey Bogart) African Queen: Die Magie Der Steine - Heilsteine Reviews: "...[The film] still sparkles thanks to one of film history's all-time casting coups..."

African Queen: Die Magie Der Steine - Heilsteine Video African Queen: Die Magie Der Steine - Heilsteine Movie Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) RE: this will do I find it hard to believe, that one of the great movies of our time, still does not have a U.S. release on dvd.
The wikipedia site says, the film is currently under restoration. But, how many years has that been?
This Chinese Import will do though.
It is a full screen version. The colors and clarity are excellent.
There's a bit of background noise in the mono soundtrack, but it's a minor complaint.
So, if you dont want to wait forever for the U.S. Version, (Viacom currently has the U.S. rights), this import will be a welcome addition to your 'must haves'.

How we discovered the "BORA"! A classic movie starring two of the best actors in America.
The Critics Choice-Big Boook of Movies says it best:
"Katharine Hepburn, Humphrey Bogart.
Two strong personalitiescombat the elements, the Germans and each otherwhile traveling on a raft through
Africa during World War II "
I would add that you will never feel the same about mosquitos or leeches after seeing this film.
And the true irony is that these tweo opposites fall in love and sink a German ship in the end.
The also discover that the Ulanga River, the river they started this adventure on turns into the Bora after some nasty rapids and water falls.Which of course nobody else seems to have discovered up till tjeir trip.
Really great movie; well worth watching! Submitted by martinsemail669 (Jacksonville, Florida) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

love the way it used to be. this good old fashioned movie was a real pleasure to watch .humphry bogart is the best .he and catheryn seem made for each other.and its funny how they go about getting aquainted with one another. charlie & rosie started out as mr.alnut and miss. also the scenrey was fantastic for that time. and the storyline cant be beat. I specificly like the part when rosie talked charlie into thinking that he could repair the boat. just goes to show you, there aint nothing a man cant do, when a woman tells him he can. well nuff said. if you like an encouraging movie about an unlikely relationship between two very different people, with a very happy ending. then this movie is a must see. A Great Oldie This is a movie I've seen many times over the years, seeing it the first time in a drive in theater...I never tire of it...I think Bogart and Hepburn give superb performances in this action packed and emotional movie..And it is suitable for younger viewers.

When his long-lost love, Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman), surfaces in Casablanca with her Resistance leader husband, Victor Laszlo (Paul Henreid), Rick is pulled into both a love triangle and a web of political ...

African Queen: Die Magie Der Steine - Heilsteine review
$10.05 Cary Grant and Tony Curtis star as naval officers in this service comedy, one of the director's favorite genres. When Adm. Matt Sherman's (Grant) submarine, the Sea Tiger, is damaged during the attack on Pearl Harbor, he needs to find spare parts to have it recommissioned. Into the breach steps aide Lt. Nick Holden (Curtis), a master con man and wheeler-dealer who begins scheming to acquire the materials needed to fix the sub while the appalled Sherman looks the other way. Once the sub is deemed seaworthy, they stop at an island where Holden picks up a couple of Filipino families and five navy nurses who have been stranded there. The arrival of the extremely attractive nurses in the sub's cramped quarters has the predicted effect on the young, all-male crew, who soon find concentrating on their work to be an impossible task. The women also have their own ideas about the renovation of the submarine, one of which involves painting it pink. Despite the dated 1950s gender stereotypes, ...

$10.29 This World War II comedy stars Cary Grant in an uncharacteristic turn as Walter Eckland. Walter is an unshaven bum who inhabits a deserted island in the South Seas. Completely boozed up, unshaven, and badly dressed, Walter is a watcher for Japanese spy planes. An Australian Navy Commander, Frank Houghton (Trevor Howard) has pressed Walter, who once had his own cruiser at the beginning of the war, to become the sole occupant of a strategic watching station. It is into this world that smart and sexy Catherine Frenau (Leslie Caron) is drawn when Walter, en route in a dinghy to rescue another watcher, stumbles on to the schoolteacher and a flock of seven young girls. The girls have been marooned because their pilot was ordered to leave them to rescue the survivors of an abandoned bomber. Ralph Nelson directs shrewdly and keeps ...
