After overcoming some critical personal shakeups to produce 2004's excellent THEY'RE ONLY CHASING SAFETY, Florida's Underoath fulfilled the immense expectations set by that album--to transcend their audience's demands and still uphold their Christian metal roots--with 2006's DEFINE THE GREAT LINE. The Band undertakes this follow-up effort with such unbending ferocity that they leave most of their pop/screamo contemporaries in the dust. Vocalist Spencer Chamberlain removes himself from the sugary trappings of his brethren frontmen, gracing even his melodic passages with the angst and chaos that underline his more lungbusting turns. The band behind him has learned enough lessons from legitimate, vinyl-only, handmade-sleeve '90s screamo to make more learned listeners realize that these guys are as close to the real deal as anyone. Combining bracing melodies with unchecked aggression, Underoath may have made the defining album of the movement with DEFINE THE GREAT LINE.
This CD/DVD set includes a CD of 11 tracks, a bonus DVD with behind the scenes, in studio, and making of the album/artwork, special 8 panel digi-pak with booklet, and exclusive artwork.
DVD Features:
DVD IncludedSpin (p.88) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "Underoath construct dense, chaotic metalcore that emphasizes the struggle inherent in faith." Alternative Press (p.185) - "DEFINE sounds like a group-therapy session put to tape...artfully updating their early brutal style with weird time changes, jarring electronic textures and post-metal ambience." CMJ (p.24) - "[They] flaunt their hard-rock prowess with flailing, bottom-heavy riffs throughout, while letting their punk rock and post-hardcore roots show." Kerrang (Magazine) (p.50) - "This is an exceptional record, one that will both appeal to and challenge, rock fans all over the spectrum." blinding Awesome, Underoath deserve respect for always acting with integrity and drive - this album is no different in that respect. A heavier sound and perhaps less accessible to the average joe - look past the growls and see a thing of beauty! i love this album. The packaging here is nice but not mind blowing - but a cool 'about the artwork' section on the (all too short) dvd is worth a watch. Submitted by reap_the_worldwind (Nowheresville, UK.) best thing of the album: the package ! the package is awesome: cd plus dvd with a digipack 8 page booklet . the dvd is a bit poor of content anyway. musically, the disc is harder than the previous stuff the band ever recorded but the production (due to adam d from killswitch engage ) is brillant. i like this disc , even tough the best thing is the package. Back the truck up Will people PLEASE stop hating on this album. ive read the reviews here and people say that underoath will be forgotten in 5 yeahs.HA!!!
ill be honest, im no christian, im almost as far removed from christian as possible.
THIS ALBUM IS AMAZING.
this is deffinatly one of the best albums ever recored in my opinion. i put it up there with Lateralus by Tool and In Vouge by Drop Dead, Gorgeous, not based on musical style, but on how it will affect you. this is an album which u will either hate or love...and im happy to say i love it Submitted by ryre (Auckland, NZ) Was This Review Helpful? Doesn't touch the last album Pretty dissapointed with this release. The songwriting is nowhere near as good as "They're only chasing safety", the vocals especially lack. I always return to that album.

| | Honeybrowne Something To Believe In CD (2005)
Define The Great Line
$8.89 There is something refreshing if a band can walk the tightrope between roots rock and alt-country without sounding too refined or pre-packaged. Fortunately, the honesty heard in the leadoff title track is a good omen of what's to come. Honeybrowne seem quite happy falling somewhere around the roots rock of the Connells with a slightly Southern feel like Steve Earle. They nail this format perfectly during "New Friends." Meanwhile, there is a slightly Tex-Mex stroll à la the Mavericks on "March of Life," with lead singer Fred Andrews sounding as if he's influenced by Chris Isaak. The band's ear for melodies is fantastic also on the precious "I'm Here," which resembles ...
