Originally issued in 2005 in the band's native Poland and quickly deleted, Voices in My Head was a follow up to the band's debut full-length, Out of Myself. The original EP is here augmented by three live tracks and a video for the song "Acronym Love." Newcomers may be surprised by the lush approachability of Riverside's sound; the band is generally assigned to the prog/metal category, but the only apparent reason for that is the general sense of grandiosity that informs its music. For most metal bands, grandiosity is bad news, taking what might otherwise be salutary noise and turning it into giggle-inducing silliness. But for Riverside it's a sonic principle rather than a posture, and it works very well. The hideously named "DNA TS. Rednum or F. Raf" ("Far from Understand"?) is dark and gorgeous, with acoustic guitars and tastefully wielded electronic rhythm loops; "Time I Was Daydreaming" is dreamy and lush, with synthesized strings and more electro rhythms. "Stuck Between" is less interesting but still quite pleasant, and the three live tracks, unsurprisingly, are all a bit more hard-edged and rock-ish, particularly the energetic "Out of Myself." Highly recommended overall. ~ Rick Anderson
Riverside: Mariusz Duda (vocals, acoustic guitar, bass guitar); Michal Lapaj (keyboards); Piotr Kozieradzki (drums); Riverside.

| Voices In My Head Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) Good not Great Great band, 3 live tracks are sweet, but the other songs are all very similiar. Good CD but not Great. Submitted by pohligr2 (Pittsburgh, PA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
talent breeds great work this band is by far the leader in todays progressive music industry. waiting now for the full cd. of this project!! Submitted by rtc920 (bristol,ct.) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Already a Fan? ..the cd consists of 5 new songs, 3 live songs from previous cd's and 1 live performance video. First, the 3 live songs, in my opinion, sound better in their original, studio release than live(3/5). The new cuts I think, are just a slight step forward than their 2 previous cd's. Primarily "moody" in nature, I really enjoyed a more pensive-sounding Riverside.(4/5) So, if your new to the band, maybe check out "Out of My Head". Already a fan? there's 5 excellent new cuts, 3 good live cuts, and 1 satisfying, live performance video. Question: What's in the water in Warsaw?? I waaant some!!! Submitted by michael e. Voices In My Head
$8.59 There's a breed of (post-1980s) bands with the same degree of grand rock experimentalism as Pink Floyd and Yes, who simultaneously adhere to the concept of concise songwriting. Porcupine Tree is one such band--their sound is a balance of lush ambient textures, charming vocal harmonies, rock & ...

Voices In My Head
$12.19 The sophomore release for this melodic duo (actually a five-piece band, but the leads are Steven Wilson and Aviv Geffen) based to some degree on the progressive bent of Porcupine Tree covers much of the same ground as their debut. The sound is still firmly in the realm of progressive rock, with hints of Radiohead and Oasis. Unlike Blackfield's previous album which was recorded off and on over a two-year span, this one was recorded in one short stretch, and shows somewhat more consistency in tone as a result. The album-opening "Once" has a particularly Radiohead-like vibe and a bit of heaviness, but the development of the album works into other veins as well, with large string movements, light piano accompaniment, and a generally melodic guitar approach. ...

Voices In My Head
$5.95 For many years, there were only the official Boston albums in the group's catalog. Unlike many bands, they held out recycling their work in a series of budget-line collections, granting only a two-fer release of their first two albums in 1983. Things changed once Greatest Hits was released in 1997, since its release guaranteed ...

| | Helios Creed Lactating Purple CD (1992)
Voices In My Head
$11.69 More lineup changes (this time around it's bassist Paul Kirk, drummer Paul Della Pelle, and synth person Z Silver) but as to be expected the same general modus operandi from Creed; anyone not convinced by his art won't be swayed here, anyone who loves it will enjoy this. Still, compared to his earliest solo efforts, the half-hour long Purple is a touch more run-of-the-mill; there's nothing as distinct as Rey Washam's killer drumming on Boxing the Clown or Jack Endino's solid production for The Last Laugh on this self-produced effort. When everything connects, though, it's more spaced-out/weirded-out ...

Voices In My Head
$15.05 Sid Selvidge has had a musical career as expansive as the Mississippi Delta -- and as true to his roots as the bluesmen of yesteryear. In short, it's been the real thing. Selvidge was born in Greenville, Mississippi, and got his first guitar at age 13. As a teenager he disc jockeyed at radio station WDDT in Greenville, and later at KWAM in Memphis. While in Memphis he performed at the famous Bitter Lemon Club, where he studied the styles of legendary bluesmen Furry Lewis and Mississippi Fred McDowell. He honestly understands the songs he sings, which is why listeners love to hear them. "Sid Selvidge, who comes from Mississippi by way of Memphis, is neither country nor rock," said John Rockwell of the New York Times. "He's pretty much everything musically in the whole Southeast." Selvidge graduated from Rhodes College in Memphis with a degree in Anthropology and later taught there. His first album, Portrait, was recorded while he was still in school, on Enterprise Records, a subsidiary of Memphis-based ...
