Hailing from Pennsylvania, this 1960s vocal four-piece had its first hit in 1965 with "You're the One," previously recorded by Petula Clark. This song and its follow-up, "Five O'Clock World," both of which peaked at number four, are among the many featured on this extensive best-of. The influence of '50s harmony groups like the Four Freshmen is heard on tracks like "Mr. Sun" and "True Lovers," while their version of British songwriters Roger Cook and Roger Greenaway's "Lovers of the World Unite" presages both the rise of folk-rock and flower power, and also bears distinct traces of early Who.
Liner Note Author: Dawn Eden. Best Of The Vogues Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) Good stero and some of the Vogues It is often hard to separate the Lettermen from the Vogues and that is
not bad for both groups are very compentent and talented. They are of course famous for their sensation harmony. This is a CD of intense interest since some of
the songs on the CD are songs by the Vogues. What does all this mean. It means this is one great CD. Submitted by Larry (Pensacola, FL USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Quality Mid Sixties Pop. A virtually unknown group here in the U.K., but an amazing success rate in the U.S., thoroughly recommended to any lover of mid sixties music. My own favourites are the 2 biggest hits, You're The One and Five O'Clock World, and a very acceptable version of the David & Jonathan hit Lovers Of The World Unite. Track 12, That's The Tune has a very 'Northern Soul' feel to it, anf finally, a very good version of a little known Petula Clark/Tony Hatch composition Where Did We Go Wrong. And it goes without saying sound quality as with all Varese Sarabande releases is first class. Submitted by Graham (Skellingthorpe, Lincolnshire, U.K.) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Although America wasn't the first to catch on to the Beatles, it certainly gave the Fabs a worldwide stage from which to launch their pop music invasion. During the space of 12 months in 1964, Capitol released four Beatles LPs that reshuffled various British Parlophone LPs, EPs, and singles. The result of this rejiggering was four unique titles that, along with those famed Ed Sullivan performances, were the introduction to this global ...

$18.79 This CD contains B.B. King's first ABC-Paramount studio efforts -- Mr. Blues (1962) and Confessin' the Blues (1965), respectively. While there are inevitable similarities between the projects, offering them back-to-back allows listeners an acute sense of King's rapid maturation and development during what was by all accounts the nexus of the guitarist/vocalist's career. The dozen-song Mr. Blues was ...
