| | Leann Rimes Whatever We Wanna CD Leann Rimes Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
In the summer of 2006 LeAnn Rimes was only 23 years of age, and yet Whatever We Wanna was the 16th album release in her career thus far (including hits albums and oldies compilations). For a supposed country music star, she now had hit albums in an R&B style, and Whatever We Wanna was most definitely veering toward gaining her a rock audience -- not credible rock in the sense of Stevie Nicks or Pat Benatar, but AOR country crossover as Shania Twain and Faith Hill had successful managed before her (especially the song "A Little More Time," which could indeed have been Twain singing rather than Rimes). The rock angle was heaviest on the album's opening song, "Satisfied," as well as the title track, but Rimes slowed everything down to her usual country-influenced ballad style on "Strong," "This Life," "Some People," and "For the First Time," the latter of which was reminiscent of a Heart power ballad. As would be expected on a song featuring Brian McFadden (formally of Westlife), "Everybody's Someone" was also a slow ballad introduced by a piano, and surprisingly given his status as a guest on her album, McFadden opens the first verse with his sugary voice. Leann Rimes had co-writing credits on nine of the 15 songs. The release of Whatever We Wanna was delayed in the U.S. due to the ongoing success of her previous album, This Woman. ~ Sharon Mawer
Ninth album by the high priestess of American Pop/Country. At 23 years of age and with 37 million album sales under her belt, this is the follow up to her 2005 album, This Woman. Includes the single 'And It Feels Like' plus 'Destructive', 'Strong', 'Satisfied', 'Little More Time', 'Rumor 'Bout A Revolution' and 'Everybody's Someone' (duet with Brian McFadden) . Warner. 2006. Whatever We Wanna album
$6.29 TWISTED ANGEL shows just how far the newly adult vocalist has come from her teenage-prodigy beginnings. For one thing, she seems determined to leave her country roots far behind. Though she started down the pop route as early as 1997's YOU LIGHT UP MY LIFE, TWISTED ANGEL is completely devoid of any country inflection whatsoever, focusing instead (as have a couple of Rimes's previous efforts, to varying degrees) on modern, often even danceable, pop. Rimes may be closer to Britney Spears than to Kitty Wells these days, but she seems to be expressing more of her inner self. It's surely no coincidence that three of the four songs on which she gets co-writing credit utilize the imagery of the angel with dirty wings, the child star with tears behind the smile. Lyrically, Rimes is clearly exploring the conflicts and contradictions that her childhood fame brought her, which may or may not take her higher up the pop charts, but can only be a positive artistic step for a still-young singer.
LeAnn steps into a new Pop dimension with songs produced by such luminaries as Desmond Child (Life Goes On), Peter Amato (of Baha Men fame) and Gregg Pagani (Canada's #LW). Includes the hit single 'Life Goes On'. Curb Records. 2002.

| | Sugarland Twice The Speed Of Life CD (2004)
Whatever We Wanna CD music
$10.39 Fronted by the seriously soulful vocalist Jennifer Nettles, Sugarland is a trio that makes immediately accessible, radio-ready country-pop. Singer/songwriters Kristen Hall and Kristian Bush comprise the other two-thirds of the group, and together they generate a sound that is equal parts backwoods twang, urban-cowgirl glamour, and suburban working-class malaise, a mix that will undoubtedly appeal to all three demographics. TWICE THE SPEED OF LIFE is Sugarland's full-length debut, and it fulfills the promise of its major-label status by delivering the goods in full.
While the crisp production, Nettles's gospel-inflected alto, and Hall and Bush's sweet, multi-part harmonies are what catch the ear on first listen, the secret weapon here is the quality of the songwriting. "Something More" bemoans the dreariness of 9-to-5 life and yearns for transcendence in its memorable, sing-along chorus. "Hello" is a lilting, mid-tempo narrative of an idyllic romance, while "Down in Mississippi (Up to No Good) is the sort of rollicking party anthem tailor-made for wild nights on the town. In short, Sugarland has all the makings of major country-pop act.

| | Dixie Chicks Taking The Long Way CD (2006)
Whatever We Wanna music CDs
$9.99 At the time of TAKING THE LONG WAY's release, the lyrical content of a high-profile album by a big-deal artist hadn't been the topic of such public scrutiny since Eminem was still a hot topic. The Dixie Chicks certainly had to have seen this coming, though, after they withstood a firestorm of insults, threats, and boycotts for criticizing George W. Bush's policies. "Not Ready to Make Nice" and "Lubbock or Leave It" (among others) make it clear, however, that the Chicks have no intention of retreating a single step from their convictions. Similarly, the fact that TAKING THE LONG WAY is as much a pop album as it is contemporary country should not be misinterpreted as an abandonment of the factions that turned against the group during the controversy in question.
The soaring pop choruses and dashes of string orchestration that vie for space with acoustic picking and steel guitar swells should rather be seen in the context of a group that's been evolving toward a pop/country amalgam for some time. (Don't forget that one of their biggest hits was a Fleetwood Mac cover.) If anything, the expansive sonic approach and forthright themes simply stand to show that the Chicks have transcended genre pigeonholes. There's still plenty of country in their sound, but with LONG WAY the trio belongs to the larger world at last.

Whatever We Wanna songs
$12.59 More than 30 years after the English quintet's inception, Def Leppard have survived and thrived while many of their pop-metal contemporaries have stumbled into obscurity or gone on dubious reunion tours. | | Leann Rimes This Woman CD (2005)
Whatever We Wanna CD music
$6.86 When a teenage LeAnn Rimes burst on the scene in the mid-1990s, country fans were astounded by her uncanny vocal resemblance to the late, great Patsy Cline. Perhaps in reaction to this initial pigeon-holing, Rimes moved further and further away from her straight country roots; as the singer's career progressed, she eventually became a country-pop diva on par with Shania Twain and Faith Hill.
As the title suggests, THIS WOMAN completes Rimes's transformation into an adult crossover artist. Despite the twangy guitar licks of "I Want to With You," the track has much in common with the driving teen-pop anthems of Lindsay Lohan and Avril Lavigne as it does with Nashville's "new traditionalists." "Something's Gotta Give" delivers an interesting hybrid, pairing careening bluegrass violin with electric sitar straight out of a 1960s film soundtrack. Through it all, Rimes's voice remains a powerful, husky instrument imbued with equal parts stadium ...
