(2 Customer Reviews)
One of the most popular artists in country-music history, Tanya Tucker had her heyday in the 1970s but continued to release charting hits into the 21st century. This well-selected compilation focuses on Tucker's output during the '70s and '80s, an era when the young, emotive singer went from performing rustic, traditionally minded tunes (the vibrant "Delta Dawn") to slick, pop-oriented songs (the plaintive "Just Another Love"). Although there are many other Tucker retrospectives available, this 20-track set is one of the best.

$18.79 This CD contains B.B. King's first ABC-Paramount studio efforts -- Mr. Blues (1962) and Confessin' the Blues (1965), respectively. While there are inevitable similarities between the projects, offering them back-to-back allows listeners an acute sense of King's rapid maturation and development during what was by all accounts the nexus of the guitarist/vocalist's career. The dozen-song Mr. Blues was a haphazard start for King with the contents taken from three different recording sessions in a 13-month period (March 1, 1962 through April 11, 1963). Based ...

$12.39 Gretchen Petersâ musical career has grown like a Virginia creeper: new leaves spreading in one direction first, then another, then another still. The result is lush and impressive, though it didnât get that way all at once. Peters has the sort of creative impulse that inevitably finds the fertile spots, which is a wonderful thing from the standpoints of quality and longevity, even if it can be a little unpredictable. Circus Girl: The Best of Gretchen Peters is a welcome chance, then, to retrace how her songs have grownâand keep growingâfrom their roots in her singular storytelling gifts. In other words, itâs a chance to take in the full effect thus far.Says Peters of the collectionâs 15 carefully selected songs, âWhat I was amazed by was that there was a continuity to them, that they hung together, all of them, from these disparate times.â Indeed, they do.Peters arrived in Nashville in the late â80s, a singing, songwriting product of New York, Boulder, Colorado and politically active parents. Perplexed by the artificial division of labor in the commercial country music industry, she concluded it would be best to seek a publishing deal first. âI didnât understand the whole delineation between singer and songwriter,â she explains. âEverybody that I knew was a singer-songwriter, did it all. I couldnât really conceive of myself in any other ...

| | Forever Changing: The Golden Age Of Elektra Records 1963-1973: Deluxe Edition CDs (2007)
Definitive Collection
$170.75 2006 special limited edition 12x12 box spectacular anthology of the best from the Elektra Records label as it evolved from folk to folk-rock music and eventually embraced electric rock-based artists at the core of it's roster. "Forever Changing" was meticulously assembled and great care given to it's contents. This box includes a lavishly illustrated 96 page hardback book, 4 fine art prints of classic Elektra sleeves of The Doors, Judy Collins, Love & Bread, a set of 8 postcards, 4 photo of The Doors, Love, 2 gold enamel logo badges, Tom Rush and Queen, scrapbook style facsimile memorabilia, an illustrated discography and a CD ROM copy of Jac Holzman and Gavan Daws' autobiography and label history "Follow The Music" and a numbered certificate of authentification. The set is a very limited edition, with only 4000 being assembled worldwide!
This five-CD set (which also includes a bonus CD-ROM) is not the biggest, most massive box set that you've ever encountered -- back in the late '90s, Deutsche Grammophon had out something about the size of a cello case (with a pair of handles on it) that contained the label's entire recorded output of the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, although, to be fair, ...
