Ryan Farish is one of the most popular purveyors of easy listening electronica in the United States, even though most people don't know his name. Where most listeners have experienced Farish's music is on the Weather Channel, which features his compositions regularly during the Local on the 8's forecast, as well as on the intro to Storm Stories. As his name has risen in profile, his site on mp3.com has gotten a steadily increasing number of hits, and his debut album Beautiful ended up on Billboard's Top Ten chart for new age music. His third album finds him exploring more extensively the sounds of live instruments; Everlasting prominently features string arrangements and electric bass along with the usual electronic chord washes and percussion. Farish's sound is still a bit on the goopy side, a problem that he could largely clear up if he'd eliminate the shimmery aura of reverb and delay around his piano, but there are some very fine moments on this album: "Sing to You" benefits from a U2-ish bassline, crunchy breakbeats rough up the edges on the otherwise rather saccharine "Together We Will Conquer," "Young at Heart" nicely juxtaposes his shimmery piano sound with tough, jungle-inflected breakbeats, and "Time Between Us" combines choral vocals and a rubbery trip-hop beat to fine effect. Nothing earthshaking here, but a very nice listen overall. ~ Rick Anderson

Everlasting album
$12.75 This is the debut album from Amethystium which received a groundswell of support from online listeners, to the tune of a half million downloads before its official release. The album is attributed to Oystein Ramfjord, a composer from Norway who makes ambient electronic music full of mystifying sounds. The opening song, "Opaque," begins with an incredible underwater sonar pulse that makes way for ...
| | Amethystium Aphelion CD (2003)
Everlasting CD music
$14.45 Aphelion is the point where a planet or any celestial body is furthest from the sun. While this must be pretty dark place, Amethystium breathes light into the shadows. Amethystium is Oystein Ramfjord, a Norwegian composer who shapes elements of electronica and darkwave, evoking classic Tangerine Dream and Kitaro. This is the follow-up album to ODONATA, Ramfjord's acclaimed debut. Voices figure prominently into each song's construction. Often ethereal and wordless, these sound forms give a great depth ...

| | Ryan Farish From The Sky CD (2005)
Everlasting songs
$9.95 Composer Ryan Farish is heard most widely by those who consult The Weather Channel on a regular basis; his talents have also been utilized for in-house purposes by such major corporations as IBM and Sun Microsystems. These two facts may lead you to expect numbingly pleasant, utterly boring music with a professional sheen and a saccharin-sweet favor. You'd be only about one-third right. It's true that Farish's music is about as intellectually challenging as People magazine. But that's not to say that it's either boring or syrupy. Remember the Ramones: intellectually speaking, their music wasn't even up to People standards (it was more like The Weekly World News), but that ...

| | Christopher Peacock Traveler CD (1999)
Everlasting music CDs
$10.15 Christopher Peacock's 1999 album Traveler blends a selection of original compositions, film music, and traditional songs into a smooth, reflective collection of new age instrumentals. Peacock's "The Open Road," "Neither Here Nor There," and the title track are appropriately gentle, winding pieces, supported by his interpretations of "City of Angels," "Il Postino," ...

| | Enam M' Achelli CD (2001)
Everlasting album
$13.39 The back cover blurb states that the album "evokes the colorful world of Hildegard Von Bingen, Enya, Clannad, Romance, Fairies and Religion." And it's true enough. Tracks like "Socata Del Stero" could be straight out of the Enya songbook, while "m'Anchelii" and "Kyrie" are liturgical in their aim -- medieval liturgical, with their chants. And, inevitably, "La Nuit Des Elfes" is very fairy-like. But, ultimately, what's the point in doing something that others have done before when you have nothing to add to it?The mysteriously named Enam might be an excellent imitator, but all that means is that he's generally lacking in his own musical imagination. Not all is pure ...

| | Mary Stallings Remember Love CD (2005)
Everlasting music CDs
$13.45 Mary Stallings has long been a very impressive singer living on the West Coast. Her style is conventional, a bit reminiscent of Carmen McRae's, but of very high quality and a logical match with her warm voice. Remember Love greatly benefits from the guiding hand of Geri Allen, who not only plays piano and organ but produced the project and provided all of the arrangements. The backing is a bit more modern than is usual on a Mary Stallings disc and some of the selections are more challenging, yet still comfortably in her style. Stallings is ...
