Que Chevere music CDs
$16.45 Junior Allen, aka Zukie Joseph, was born in Montego Bay, Jamaica. At an early age he was given the nickname Zukie by a community elder and mentor. Zukie was born on the 24th of February, which makes him Joseph of the twelve tribes of Israel. He is especially proud to be Joseph because two of his favorite and most influential singers, Dennis Brown and Bob Marley are also Josephs. Zukie Joseph grew up in a family of music lovers, four boys and two girls. His parents constantly played every kind of music in the house; everything from Country and Western, Reggae, Funk, RnB, Soul, Jazz and Classical music. Zukie Joseph believes that his musical diversity stems from his upbringing. His love for the dancehall started at an age where most kids couldn't cross the street. He said he was always the youngest youth in the dance, and nine times out of ten he would always get locked out of the house, followed by an ass whipping from his parents in the morning when he got home from a reggae dance. He loves dancehall music, but believes that as he matures musically he tends to prefer Roots Rock Reggae a lot more. His musical inspiration comes from icons such as Otis Redding, Curtis Mayfield, Stevie Wonder, Cat Stevens, Van Morrison, Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Dennis Brown, Toots Hibbert, Al Green, I-Threes, Diana Ross and Roberta Flack. To name a few!He came to Canada in 1989 and by 1990 he started singing on a local sound system called Mr. Basie Muzik. Between 1992 and 1994 he was the lead singer of a reggae band called The Messiah. In 1995 Zukie Joseph and three of his ex-band members went to a U-Roy concert and the four-piece band amazed them all. They went home and started P.H.D and once again Zukie Joseph was made lead vocalist. P.H.D was a huge success, they played over a hundred venues and was said to be Vancouver's No. 1 reggae band. P.H.D was together for three years. Zukie Joseph has shared the same bill with mega Reggae stars such as Leroy Sibbles, Burning Spear, Justin Hines, the Wailers, Judy Mowatt, Maestro Fresh Wes, and Pablo Moses, Tanto Metro and Devonte, Kirk Davis and Half Pint. Zukie Joseph presently sings lead and plays ...
| | Ben Cyllus Cinnamon Matinee CD (2005)
Que Chevere songs
$16.45 When you listen to the music of Ben Cyllus you can hear the influences of the geographic trail he has left behind - the organic surroundings of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, where he was raised, the spirit of Texas where he played in a series of bands with his brothers, and the straight-forward honesty of the city of Detroit where he has lived for the past ten years and where he recently recorded his full-length debut "Cinnamon Matinee". Using the songbooks of his folk and rock heroes, Ben taught ...
| | Blue Sparks CD (2004)
Que Chevere album
$7.99 Blue sparks often bring a wide range of comparison:blondie to siouxie and the banshees, Roxy music to the clash, the Pixies to Television, Talking heads to the Carter Family. Girl group harmonies, manic guitars, angular soul filled bass and kinetic drumming define their unique sound. They have been discribed repeatedly as one of the best unsigned bands in NYC in countless online & trade publications. with nothing more than word of mouth, their strong live show kept them booked for the past three years in every major underground NY rock club. They have shared the stage with the Star Spangles, Ambulance LTD, the witnesses, The Fever, the Warlocks, The realistics, the View. Kerry Kennedy- guitar/vocalsPhil Aceto-guitar/vocalsAlana Amram-bass/vocalsKen Larkin-drumsNewspaper Taxi says:Blue Sparks are probably NYC's most exciting band right now, currently sending shock waves through the city's music scene and earning the respect of both their peers and music fans alike. The kicker is that they have yet to sign with a label, but this will change soon enough. Their live performances are exciting and dramatic, and their songwriting is rock n' roll at its best: loud, emotional, and intelligent. Blue Sparks are igniting NYC ablaze with rock, and the fire cannot be contained! Living in NYC, it's difficult these days to take someone seriously when they tell you,"You've got to check out this band, they're going to be huge," given the seemingly endless line-up of hyped "next-greatest-thing" bands that permeate my fair city's music scene. Shame on me for thinking that he was perpetrating mere NYC rock-scene chatter because the band in question was Blue Sparks, a Brooklyn based outfit, consisting of Phil Aceto, guitar and lead vocals, Kerry Kennedy, guitar and vocals, Alana Amram bass and vocals, Donnie Myers, drums. They instantly won me over after hearing only half-a-tune when they opened up for The Vue in July at Sin-e, a cozy little rock club in the Lower East Side of NYC. First off, let's make one thing clear: Blue Sparks are a rock n' roll band. Let me repeat that: they are a Rock-And-Goddamn-Take-It-Or-Leave-It- Roll band, the likes of which New York City, and maybe even the western world, hasn't seen for a long, long time (dare I say since..... The Clash? Oooo music fans, bear with me, you haven't seen these guys live yet!). In the same sense that critics and fans used to claim that, in their day, The Clash was the "only band that mattered," I'd submit that Blue Sparks are one of the only bands that matter in NYC right now: they are one of the only bands in NYC that can really rock. These guys play their asses off, have a good time doing it, and look great, all at the same time. When they play a gig, you can feel the energy even from the outside of the club, on the curb, and by the time you've muscled your way toward the stage (every show I've seen them at recently has been elbow-to-elbow), your in love and probably deaf. They seem dangerously ...
| | Dromedary Quartet CD (2006)
Que Chevere CD music
$18.99 Dromedary began playing as a duo with no professional ambitions in mind back in the last century (1998). Possessing a fascination with music from other countries to which they had traveled, Rob McMaken and Andrew Reissiger were inspired to listen, study, compose, and eventually perform some of this music together on each other's front porches in Athens, GA. Passersby eventually convinced them to play in a club, and the rest is history. Their first independent CD Artifact (2001) was picked up by NPR's All Things Considered ...
