| | Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh Daybreak: Fainne An Lae CD (2006)
Highland Heart album
$13.89 If a listener approaches Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh's new album expecting to hear traditional interpretations of Celtic folk songs, he or she will probably be disappointed. If, on the other hand, a listener approaches Daybreak: Fáinne an Lae as contemporary folk that borrows a thing or two from tradition, he or she will find it quite enjoyable. Part of the problem in how to interpret her music is that even her name, Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh, hints at tradition, as does the album's title. And it doesn't help that she sings a number of old folk songs in her native tongue, again hinting at a commitment ...

| | Hatful Of Rain: The Best Of Del Amitri CD (1998) Germany
Highland Heart music CDs
$10.59 It's likely that a large portion of the audience Del Amitri won with the lightly infectious, incessantly catchy "Roll to Me" thought of the Scottish group as a new band, not an outfit that had been recording for over a decade. That may be one of the reasons why Hatful of Rain: The Best of Del Amitri was released in 1998, a mere three years after "Roll to Me" climbed into the Top Ten. (It could also be that the follow-up, Some Other Sucker's Parade, stiffed on the charts.) In any case, Hatful of Rain is an excellent overview of Del Amitri's career, containing no less than 17 tracks, including all of their American and British hits. It may overlook their early independent singles, yet the consistency of their major-label work in the '80s and '90s gives the collection a sense of cohesion, even if it is sequenced out of chronological ...

Highland Heart songs
$9.95 Songs written by Aimee Mann. Original score composed by Jon Brion.
"Save Me" was nominated for the 1999 Academy Award For Best Song.
MAGNOLIA was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Compilation Soundtrack Album for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media, "Save Me" was nominated for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and for Best Song Written for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media.
The stars have never seemed entirely aligned for Aimee Mann. The brilliant Boston singer/songwriter with an ear for enticingly sweet hooks and somber, reflective lyrics was constantly overlooked and underappreciated throughout the '90s as she released two quietly heralded pop records. To make matters worse, she ended the decade with a wealth of material and suddenly no label on which to release it all. Thankfully, Aimee has friends like filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson, who catapulted to celebrity with 1997's surprise critical hit BOOGIE NIGHTS. For his follow-up, MAGNOLIA, whose tone he has credited in part to listening to ...
