| | Yoko Miwa In The Mist Of Time CD Yoko Miwa Discography of CDs
First CD by Boston based Japanese Jazz pianist Yoko Miwa. "On her initial CD, Yoko Miwa demonstrates a full command of the inner-directed, post-Bill Evans piano idiom, which also takes in the work of Keith Jarrett, Chick Corea, and Steve Kuhn. "In the Mist of Time" amply displays her burgeoning talent as a writer of melodically inviting, impressionistic material, as well as introducing a technically assured soloist with a clean, singing sound and an occasional penchant for the blues in pastels." -legendary jazz critic James Isaac's. "In the Mist of Time displays the depth and breadth of Yoko Miwa's talent.-The Boston Herald.Born in Kobe, Japan, Miwa studied classical piano from the age of 4. While in college, she began to study jazz with pianist Minoru Ozone, father of internationally renowned jazz pianist Makoto Ozone. She abandoned classical music in 1995 when she entered Koyo Conservatory of Music to study jazz theory and performance. In 1996, she received a scholarship to Koyo Conservatory's sister jazz institution, the Berklee College of Music in Boston. | | Will Downing Classique CD (2009)
In The Mist Of Time
$14.39 Audio Mixers: Tip Wyman; Jeff Kaman; Ray Bardani. Audio Remasterer: Chris Gehringer. The title of Will Downing's 2009 effort, CLASSIQUE, produced by the artist and Rex Rideout, may be a bit misleading: it is not a compilation but a brand-spanking new collection of contemporary jazz-inflected R&B--in other words, classic Downing. The album's first single, "Something Special"--with its hand drums, loops, and slippery flute flitting around a well-placed, subtle horn section--is at its core a popping midtempo love song. Elsewhere, his cover of Barry White's "I'm Gonna Love You Just a Little Bit More Baby" reveals just how deep the master's influence is on Downing. He may not have the full depth of White's baritone, but he gets close, and his expressiveness and emotional connection to the song make it shine. The completely old-school Marvin Gaye ballad "Baby I'm for Real" features a duet appearance ...

In The Mist Of Time
$21.49 The stunning self-titled debut CD from Pacific Northwest native JILL JENSON features the work of an artist with far from your usual artist’s resume. JlLL’S various career stints include disc-jockeying at a high-profile jazz station, work as a professional jingle singer and voiceover artist, and senior executive/consultancy positions at AT&T Wireless and Microsoft. Certainly not your typical artist background, but this jazz/pop CD is anything but ordinary. Produced by singer/songwriter/producer Tim Cashion (Bob Seger, Robert Palmer, Grand Funk Railroad), and executive produced by veteran producer Matt Pierson (Bob James, Joshua Redman, Michael Franks, Willie Nelson, Brad Mehldau), JILL JENSON is a beautiful, highly sophisticated and personal collection of songs that address the issues which all of us face in contemporary life including love, loss, hope, longing and transformation.Joining Jill on the CD are noted musicians/guitarists Chuck Loeb (Stan Getz, Gary Burton, Michael Franks, Bob James) and Brian Monroney (Gloria Estefan, Luis Enrique, Tom Jones), bassist James Genus ( Anita Baker, Lee Ritenour, Vanessa Williams, Saturday Night Live), percussionists Bashiri Johnson (Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross, Madonna, Miles Davis, Natalie Cole ) and Jose Rossy (Weather Report, Talking Heads, Chic, Patti Labelle, Robert Palmer) and guitarist Bruce Kulick (Kiss, Michael Bolton, Meat Loaf, Todd Rundgren). The record also features : Marc Henderson on saxophone and flute, Dave Quackenbush on trumpet and flugelhorn, guitarists Dustin Hofsess, Pat Cashion and Joe Lindsay, cellist Evan Richey, bassist Tim Smith and pianist Paul Tillotson. Tim Cashion is featured on background vocals, percussion, mandolin, piano and drums.Born and raised in Portland, Oregon, Jill began singing along with Manhattan Transfer records at the age of ten. She quickly progressed to Ella Fitzgerald, learning to scat, and moved on to absorb the styles of jazz greats such as Sarah Vaughan, Carmen McRae, Mark Murphy, and Mel Torme, as well as the contemporary pop/R&B music of Earth, Wind & Fire, Steely Dan, Stevie Wonder and Tower of Power. After singing professionally in the Portland area, she attended the University of Miami as a Jazz Vocal major.Following college, Jill returned to Portland and, while still singing, worked as a jazz disc jockey at KMHD radio. This afforded her the luxury of meeting many of her idols and influences while staying up-to-date with current musical trends. Eventually, ...

| | Brubeck Brothers Quartet Second Nature CD (2001)
In The Mist Of Time
$18.99 Chris and Dan Brubeck have made a number of recordings together (most of them when they both were part of the rhythm section of their famous father's quartet), and each of them is an outstanding musician in his own right. Joined by two more superb players, guitarist Mike DeMicco and keyboardist Pete Levin, they achieve a very distinct sound of their own, too, even though half of the tracks come from the repertoire of the elder Brubeck's quartet. "Bossa Nova U.S.A." becomes even more lyrical in their hands, with Dan's sensitive drumming backing the mellow solos by the remainder of the quartet; the stunning opening piano solo by Levin disguises the introduction to the jazz standard "In Your Own Sweet Way" and setting the table for a delicious bass trombone solo by Chris. Levin switches to organ for an energetic run through the infrequently heard "Cassandra"; but the pièce de résistance among the older, more familiar songs is the slow, very funky take of "Take Five." Chris Brubeck has developed into a formidable composer in his own right and his "We're Still in Love After All These Years" provides a showcase for Mike DeMicco's delicious guitar. DeMicco penned the bittersweet "Lydian Grin," while Levin's hard ...
