On their latest effort, Atreyu come with more of the same metalcore that listeners have come to expect from the band. All of the familiar elements are in place, with the alternating screaming/soaring vocals, thundering double bass drumming, and big, crunchy riffage. The difference here is that the band seems to have mellowed out a bit, opting for a more melodic approach. Like their last album, the songs here feel somewhat restrained, like they're just dying to break free of the polished production. The intensity of SUICIDE NOTES and BUTTERFLY KISSES seems to have been put out to pasture, with the songs feeling more deliberately poppy.

Delbert McClinton and Glen Clark's second and final album as a duo wasn't much different in tone than their first, Delbert & Glen. It was relaxed Texas roots rock, though perhaps less blues-inclined (and more countrified) than its predecessor, and making more use of horns in the arrangements. It might be a little less-known than the other McClinton-Clark LP, as it didn't have as many songs that were covered by other high-profile artists (or later redone by McClinton), although Dr. Hook did pick up on the McClinton composition "Let Me Be Your Lover." Vance Thompson is the leader and chief arranger of the Knoxville Jazz Orchestra, a conventional but high-quality big band. On Blues Man from Memphis, the orchestra performs eight compositions by pianist Donald Brown, who not only plays piano and electric piano but arranged "The Scenic Route to Donny's Heart." His music is advanced hard bop that swings but is not overly predictable, covering many moods. In addition to Brown, the guest soloists on various selections include Greg Tardy on soprano and tenor, Stefon Harris (who is very impressive during his four appearances) and bassist John Clayton.
