$8.55 What is Audios?By: MuzikMan (Associate Writer)Trying to explain what Spooky Pie sounds like is like analyzing a psych patient by the name of Sybil, they have so many different personalities you never know which one is going to show up for dinner. That is just fine and dandy with me because I like something out of the ordinary or the off center alternative in music. If you look at the cover of this CD you will feel you are watching a horror movie, then when you open the CD the inside cover shows three widows giving their loved ones a shot in the head and an early grave, on the back cover there are three dead men lying in a nice neat row. So what is the moral of the story? Happiness is a warm gun, what else? The CD comes housed in a...you guessed it, a blood red colored case. Even though they project this Halloween like image they are very seriously talented musicians and let's say that they use a different kind of vocal style that sounds like a punk Go-Go's on speed. To make this an even cooler joy ride R & B legend Big Jay McNeely joins in to play some smokin' saxophone. The two instrumentals that he guests on will make you think that the songs belong on another album. "Surfin' Iraq" and "Phantom Surfer" rock hard and fast with just enough twang and salty air to remind you of the days when the Southern California beaches were full of tanned teenagers stompin' their feet to great beach music and surfing all day. The other great instrumental is "Doom Buggy." It is another excellent slice of sound without the human vocals stealing the show...did I hear somebody say The Munsters? This is all great fun with a lot of good music to enjoy so do not take any of the images or content seriously. It is all merely a play on our cinematic themes sensationalizing violence and destruction. They are a very cool band with a distinctive sound and style that is all their own. It would be very difficult to emulate them, and that is what separates them from the hundreds of other indie bands vying for your attention. This one is worth taking the time to check out. Remember the names-Phyllis Teene, Will Spectre, Kim Ono, Li'l Tracy, Eddie De Joy, and Mark Fletcher, they are Spooky Pie. Spooky Pie: AudiosReviewed by DJ JohnsonDon't be completely fooled by the gothic look of the cover. Spooky Pie can't be tied to a particular genre. There are elements of pop, psychedelia, surf, girl-group 60s and, yes, goth styles near the top, then extremely brief flashes of punk and glam. So brief that they're only ghostly suggestions over the already intoxicating sounds. The music draws you right in, puts a party hat on your head, and asks you to dance to the happy sounds as one of the ladies, presumably Phyllis Teen, sings "I Ruined Him." This is not a remorseful song about mistreating a man, mind you, but a matter-of-fact accounting of finding out what a shit her guy was and the way she physically destroyed him for his sins.my latest love took me for grantedhad ...

$14.19 Something About Me If I told my whole small life story you would get tired of me real quick. So, I'll tell you a few things about certain areas of my past. Here goes. I was raised 12 miles outside of Holly Springs Mississippi on a 56-acre farm. Holly Springs is about 40 miles South East of Memphis. We had cows and grew our own food. After graduation, I moved to Memphis and got a job at a grocery warehouse. I learned about the fast life quickly and knew at an early age I wanted to do something different. In the-mid 80's I had several jobs, moved to Nebraska for a year then Kansas for 3 years. In my late 20's I realized I had to get an education, so I went back to school. I was interested in music but knew what the odds were for being successful. So, taking the technical route, I finally got my BS in mid 1998. Around 1980 I wrote my first song. My friends said it wasn't that good and it really wasn't country. I always loved to play the guitar and sing cover songs. In the-mid 1990's I joined a Memphis band called "Country Comfort." I was the lead singer for about 2 years. We only played cover songs and before that, I wrote several other songs. Using my own material at that time would have been too awkward for me. I did not feel comfortable singing in front of an audience yet. Even now, it's a little uncomfortable at first until I can get the crowd into it. My personal life reflects many of my songs yet, some of my songs are only imaginary. I can't say which ones are and aren't (I'll explain more to my fans later). After getting my masters degree in 1999, I moved from the Memphis area to a small town in Tennessee. I really like the people here and hope the job situation and politics stay ...
