| | Patti Austin For Ella CD (2002) Bonus Track; Japan
At This Moment songs
$37.25 FOR ELLA was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Awards for Best Jazz Vocal Album.
FOR ELLA has Patti Austin peforming a handful of songs closely associated with one of jazz's greatest vocal artists Ella Fitzgerald. "Tisket a Tasket," "But Not For Me" and "Miss Otis Regrets" are only a few of the highlights.
Patti Austin is well qualified to record an album in the style of Ella Fitzgerald, having spent her career shadowing the paths taken by Fitzgerald and her contemporaries. Although she has worked in R&B-oriented adult pop much of the time, she is clearly in the tradition of Fitzgerald, and in 1988 she even recorded an album of standards that she tellingly titled The Real Me. For Ella easily could be the sequel to that collection. Austin traveled to Köln, Germany, ...

| | Gwen Hughes Misplaced Martini CD (2001)
At This Moment songs
$13.69 Creative Loafing Atlanta) Reader's pick forBest Jazz/Swing Artist 2000 and 2002! "The Misplaced Martini" takes you where jazz is fun, freewheeling and...sly. Imagine sitting in a club or cafe, at a remote table, waiting for the new band to make an appearance. The air is heavy with smoke, the brightest light is directed at center stage. Cigarette girls sashay by, martinis glint in the stage light. But you haven't stepped back in time. This is now."Originally, " says Gwen, "I was caught between two genres of music. I had been singing in pop bands for a few years, but was restless inside this particular form of music. I wanted to stretch little more than the usual pop fare allows...but jazz gradually began to feel more like home." Following her introduction to and collaboration with Bill Wilson (a talent as great as his father, Teddy), Gwen was introduced to many of Atlanta's prominent jazz musicians (see the list below). Her collaboration with them, plus her early experience in theatre and rock n' roll, led to a sound that's caught somewhere between jazz and pop and big band. More recently, Gwen's sense of adventure has taken her into the even more uncharted waters of jazz and folk fusion. This recent exploration results in her latest album, "Lost & Found." Creative ...

At This Moment music CDs
$12.39 I shall to try to explain, in a few lines, why I have chosen to make this CD. It is difficult for me to do so, because I am not a writer.I must admit that, since my very first attempts at music, the act of creation has always taken the precedence. I have a vivid memory of being nearly ten years old and playing and improvising on the 6th metal string, the E grave of the guitar. In the evenings, I sat alone in the stairwell of the dark house, where the vibrations were most sensitive. I was filled with awe by the gravity of the place, of how it was enriched with many other small, strange and hidden sounds. Sounds which I could not explain to myself and which I still find hard to understand. What I loved the most in music, and still do, is the resonance of the sound. I do not believe in pure silence. In fact, it frightens me. I really think that this sense of mystery has remained in the way I think of the sound, the music and my approach to timbre and silence. !And then, my intuitions were confirmed when I met my maestro. The only one! I realized that it was possible to think the music on different ways from the conventional sense. It encouraged me in my very private, personal search. The making of this CD was almost a violation of this intimate relationship, that I am proud to have with my music. I do not believe in schools that teach composition! They limit thoughts that need freedom and wide open spaces to wander infinitely. One loses and then finds ones way, perhaps betraying oneself, but the belief is eventually reaffirmed. I really believe in 'love at first sight'. The music conquers you and makes you its 'humble slave'. I am convinced that I have arrived at this point in my life as a natural consequence of all the experiences of my youth. This CD is the synthesis of about twelve years of work. This period was, on the whole, not very productive (almost arid), but certainly for me, important, intense and strongly motivated!Enrico FrancioniEnrico Francioni has achieved degree in double-bass and recently also in electro-acoustic music at the Conservatorio "G. Rossini" of Pesaro. We mention among his teachers: F. Grillo, E. Laine, F. Petracchi, W. Stert, B. Tommaso for the double-bass and E. Giordani for the electro-acoustic music. Followed the masterclass of W. Branchi, L.Camilleri, ...
