Just A Word album
$14.38 Orchestral and choral arrangements of rock songs have been a curious subgenre ever since the mid-'60s when Andrew Loog Oldham arranged The Rolling Stones Songbook for syrupy strings, but The Kinks Choral Collection stands apart from the pack for the simple reason that it's not the project of some associate or admirer, but rather chief Kink Ray Davies. His very presence as arranger and lead vocal means The Kinks Choral Collection isn't nearly as stuffy and middlebrow as so many of these orchestral rock albums; he manages to inject some semblance of rock & roll by pushing the songs forward with guitar, and letting the rhythms swing instead of plod. This looseness is the first big surprise of the album. The second is its unrepentant but quite possibly accidental ...

Just A Word songs
$6.25 Dave Brubeck's TIME OUT ranks alongside Miles Davis' KIND OF BLUE as one of the few advanced jazz masterpieces to achieve great commercial success. In fact, the widespread popularity of TIME OUT, with its cool-toned ambience, smooth style, and elements borrowed from classical music, helped make modern jazz a mainstream phenomenon.

| | Very Best Of Bert Kaempfert CD (1995)
Just A Word album
$13.69 Recorded between 1960 and 1967. Includes liner notes by Steve Kolanjian.
Digitally remastered by Eliot Goshman (1995, Taragon Studios, Deer Park, New York).
Beginning with Louis Armstrong, through Harry James and Bobby Hackett of the Jackie Gleason Orchestra, the trumpet was once a king in pop music. This was true even in '60s-era easy listening, as demonstrated by the success of Al Hirt, Herb Alpert, and the ultra-shrewd German musician Bert Kaempfert, who probably was as responsible as anyone else in rehabilitating Germany's post-war world image. The Taragon label is re-releasing all of Kaempfert's many albums in an ambitious reissue project. This excellent compilation is the one to have however.
As well as being a successful composer ("Strangers in the Night," "Spanish Eyes," "Danke Schon," "L.O.V.E" are all his compositions), ...

$11.39 GENEROUS JUICEThe members of this Van Nuys band refer to their brand of music as Spiritual Punk, but don't let this label limit your expectations. Hear the term punk, you expect to SLAM. It is so much more. See them live, be prepared to JAM (self-absorbed lumps of joyless goo excluded).Clever, inventive hooks, interesting mid-song tempo variations, catchy bridges with influences that run an eye popping gamut of musical genres touching on black rock, speed metal, Germanic beerhall yodels, funk, folk, soul, grunge, jungle, techno, indigenous Incan mating chants, blues, rap, polka (just kiddin), delivered with an edge conveys an amazing amalgamation of styles and substance ...

| | Colored N' Blind Life On Display CD (2004)
Just A Word CD music

Just A Word music CDs
$11.39 Landing somewhere between honky-tonk and The Jayhawks, "Rain, Trains and The Lord Almighty" draws inspiration from dozens of sources which makes it that much more fun. Lucas Hendrickson-The RageThis rollicking twang is a soundtrack for a dang good time. "Rain, Trains and The Lord Almighty" is an excellent new record from the Ned Van Go guys. Peter Cooper-The TennesseanPlaintive effective vocals of Ned Hill are backed in part by the dandy piano work of Ashley Mimbela and slide guitar courtesy of Eliot Houser. A winner. Robert Oermann's single song review of "Lonely Town"-Music Row MagazineRain, Trains and the Lord Almighty, is alternative pop that's like a musical tag team match between Crowded House and R.E.M. If your smile has been in a secure undisclosed location, the winning "Sweet Rebecca" and "Back Home" will slap it back in your face. And "Love Her Anyway" is choogling Southern rock that's like a track from a lost Allman Brothers album.
