Indian music is a living tradition intimately linked to love of nature, travels and meetings they induce. The common concept to the Indian music is the raga, the Sanskrit for "passion", "color", "attachment"...The album Gipsy Ragga is the fruit of an encounter between different musical cultures, which came up to the realization, in 2004, of a CD and a DVD, recorded at the Soleil de la Butte and at the Studio Galerie A5 in Montmartre. The contemporary chants in this album are all from Jaipur in Rajasthan (North India).Pushed by his father and his brother, Rafiq Ahmed has been formed following traditional education rules. Supported by his teacher Likayat Ali Khan, his learning of music has been enriched with masters like Padam Shree and Gulam Mustafa Khan.He played with famous Indian musicians as Pankaj Udhas, Anup Jalopa, Chandan Das, Pinaz Masani, Talat Aziz, Asha Bhosle and others. He regularly participates to many prestigious festivals and multiplies musical collaborations. In 1992, he performs in solo in the city of Abroud for a ballet.During 2003, he gave several concerts in Paris : at Soleil de la Butte in Montmartre, at the summer celebration in the Goutte d'Or neighborhood, in the European Social Forum in la Villette. Finally, he gave an exceptional representation in Berlin.Nomad musicians since many generations and representatives of Indian musical traditions, Rafiq Ahmed and Shiva Carpaye are brilliant musicians using very old instruments : saranghi, accompaniment instrument for all North Indian music ; tabla, percussive instrument ; and harmonium supporting the chants.Together, they provide a very subtle, ethnic, and spiritual music particularly captivating by its beautiful melodies and very physical rhythms. They unite their echoes in modern improvisations. This album is an unseen voyagebeyond Orient's plains and mountains handing overan inspired music charged in emotion. If you like percussions, rhythm, captivating chants, this album will seduce you. Gipsy Ragga songs
$11.19 MACARTHUR PARK goes beyond the famous hit title track to explore the recorded work of stage and screen actor Richard Harris, including his versions of "Paper Chase" and "Name Of My Sorrow."
This CD reissue from England is almost (but not quite) identical to Raven Records' Richard Harris: The Webb Sessions 1968-69 from Australia, combining the contents of the albums A Tramp Shining and The Yard Went on Forever. The difference is the absence of the last Richard Harris-Jimmy Webb collaboration, "One of the Nicer Things," which appeared as a free-standing single in 1969. Alan Hodgson's annotation is slightly less informative than the notes by Jimmy Webb on the Raven CD. On the other hand, this disc is also about $3-$5 cheaper, so budget-minded fans may appreciate it. As for ...

| | Craig Russell Bamboo CD (1996)
Gipsy Ragga songs
$17.75 An extremely well-done mixture of world music elements, ambient soundscape ideas, and nicely handled electronics. Russell balances bamboo flute and hand percussion very well against the electronic instrumentation, producing a fairly natural end result that maintains a sense of warmth and comfort -- this is excellent meditational music, and might well have a place in some approaches to music therapy utilizing movement visualization. ~ Steven McDonald
The new compact disk album, "Bamboo" was recorded by Craig Russell soon after being inspired by the sounds of cane and bamboo flutes. His heart and soul immediately attached themselves to the free and expressive quality of these instruments. At the same time, he was also excited with Brazilian music with its rich chordal harmonies complex rhythms and beautiful melodic lines. While bamboo flutes were mostly associated with the music of the middle and far east, Craig found that when combined with jazz chords and high energy rhythms they made a wild and free sound. Listeners who have heard the album, find that it takes them out of the city and into the depths of the jungle. Craig was exposed to many styles of music at an early age. His father owned ...
| | Natural Selection CD (2006) Remixes
Gipsy Ragga album
$10.65 Brooklyn-based label Nature Sounds, wanting to impress the public with its list of 2006 releases, issued the sampler Natural Selection to highlight some its most promising upcoming albums. This means, basically, a lot of Wu-Tang-inspired New York hip-hop (from the source itself: Masta Killa, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Mathematics, and Killah Priest are all included here), plus two rather uninspiring cuts from Los Angeles supergroup Strong Arm Steady. The best outlook for the year probably comes from Masta Killa, whose song "Ringing Bells," from his 2006 sophomore album, Made in Brooklyn, has the best production and most interesting beat of all of the tracks, and the MC himself has quick, smooth rhymes and a nice flow. "Stick 'Em Up," by Problemz, Psycho Les, and Al Tariq, despite its use of the hip-hop ...
