"I gestate the mutant race of Old Kingdoms. I bring them reincarnated souls from the Belly of the East, where the Beast was forbidden. Wisdom was hidden from his henchmen. I had to drench them in my waters that flow, so when their bodies came to the surface, they were food for the crow..."~Excerpt from Three L's by Yejide The Night QueenYejide the Night Queen spits powerful, raw lyrics, sings melodic harmonies and smoothly changes her rhythms to articulate her sensual tenor-tone throughout NYC and beyond. Like royalty, she's charismatic and comfortable when expounding her timeless lyrics. Rough, rugged and refined, Yejide's verbal essence is skillfully manipulated to guarantee your listening pleasure without today's redundant samples or topics. Yejide's community and charitable works have resulted in the first "Womon Award 2000" from WERISE (Womyn Empowered through Revolutionary Ideas Supporting Enterprise) for contributing to 'the powerful movement of women artists and entrepreneurs'. She's received national love through the Black Track Newspaper, Shout NYC, Blu, RedEye and Mass Appeal magazines, college radio stations, independent documentaries and video plugs from Def Comedy Jam, MTV's The Grind, BAM's Dance Africa and Japan's Dance Field video series. She represented for Planet Brooklyn when she accompanied Breez Evahflowin & Poison Pen (her Stronghold fam) to Theatre Barbey in Bordeaux, France for the 4-day Hip Hop Concert & showcase, Per4mentalz. | | JEBU Phase 4 CD (2004)
Seventh
$13.15 Jebu; "Filthy is all right."Jed Keipp, vocalist-guitarist for the groovalicious trio Jebu, is extolling the virtues of filth, with regard to music. He equates filth to reality, says it makes the music more interesting. He's right. When you wanna get down, you don't wanna do it to permanent-pressed, perfectly coifed Harry Connick Jr.-you want some greasy enough to move the booty. Take James Brown: He may be sharply dressed, but he's funky-and not just in the rhythmic (or olfactory) sense. "You got to have some dirt in the music [in order to] to have a sound," says Keipp, who also goes by Jebu (a nickname given to him by his drummer). "The filth is like honesty. Music is made to woo people and get them excited; honesty, something they can relate to, keeps things rolling."So has been the rallying cry of Jebu since its inaugural year of 2000. Keipp had made rounds as a drummer with James Shook & the Resolutions, Ogden jazzer Joe McQueen, guitarist Mike Christianson and his former band, Inside Green, but what he had ...
| | VT & Yukon Vortikon CD (2006)
Seventh
$12.69 VT here: So, you were intrigued enough to make it this far? Well, if you’re looking for some fun music that shows how dangerous it can be when gaming geeks learn to play musical instruments, you’re in the right place. As I’m sure Yukon will no doubt comment on the nature of the lyrics and his vocal performances (psychoci?) from the album, I’ll take a few lines to talk about the music.Yes, its true, all the instrumentation on Vortikon was composed and performed by yours truly. Regarding the composition, I started with a basic concept: To base each track on a unique musical style/genre. With this in mind, I selected chords, progressions, performance styles, tempos and hooks that I feel represent to a certain extent some of the fundamental elements present in the selected genres.I know that might sound a bit formulaic, but the concept was very much a basic starting point; one I quickly found myself deviating from as I combined various elements (often drawn from outside the core genre) to craft music that I hope you will find accessible in the short term and intriguing in the long run. Regarding the performances themselves, I had an odd idea in my mind that I couldn’t shake throughout the recording process for this album. I wanted to make sure that all the instrumentation would be easy and fun to duplicate in a live setting. Given the content and theme of the ...
