Love Me When I'm Gone album
$14.45 After the dark and chilling themes of 2006's BLACK CADILLAC, which saw Rosanne Cash dealing with the deaths of her mother, Vivian Liberto, her father, Johnny Cash, and her stepmother, June Carter Cash -- all of whom passed within a two-year span -- one might assume that her next project would move into an even deeper level of bleakness, but with THE LIST, it's immediately clear that she has instead found a more measured place to stand. It's a lovely and redemptive outing that looks back to go forward. When Cash turned 18, her father, alarmed that his daughter only knew the songs that were getting played on the radio, gave her a list of what he considered 100 essential American songs; Cash kept that list, and now she's drawn on it for this wonderfully nuanced outing that brims with a kind of redemptive timelessness. THE LIST is a renewal and a testament to life, and it belongs to her father as much as it belongs to her, a beautiful restatement of her father's passions, only now, they've ...

| | Muse The Resistance CD (2009)
Love Me When I'm Gone album
$15.65 With its titanic guitar solos, symphonic suites, and multi-layered melodies, Muse's fifth album operates under the assumption that bigger is better. This is the very definition of a super-sized album, an album that takes its cues from Queen, its lyrics from science fiction novels, and its delivery from rock opera. It's also the first time that Muse has truly sounded like Muse, as few bands since Queen have so readily explored the intersection of bombast and extravagance. THE RESISTANCE is most certainly extravagant -- there are snatches of classical piano entwined throughout, not to mention bilingual lyrics, concert hall percussion, coronet solos, and song titles like "Exogenesis: ...
| | Rolling Stones Let It Bleed CD (1969)
Love Me When I'm Gone CD music
$14.19 The last Stones studio album of the '60s finds the band, for perhaps the first time, accurately reflecting the spirit of its age. The erstwhile bad boy outsiders of rock now found themselves firmly in the center of the social and political post-'68 whirlwind, and faced up to the challenge magnificently. The band's confident climb to its artistic peak was begun by BEGGAR'S BANQUET, but LET IT BLEED is a quantum leap even from that musical milestone.
The album's opener, "Gimme Shelter," with ...
| | SNMNMNM Power Pack Horse Crunch CD (2003)
Love Me When I'm Gone music CDs
$11.49 Power Pack Horse Crunch shouldn't be an odd choice for an album title, especially from a band that calls itself SNMNMNM. The eccentric foursome craft an indie pop sound that's practically incomparable. The novelty surrounding SNMNMNM's jaunty rock style is somewhat derived from what Talking Heads and They Might Be Giants have already done; however, these four college friends make it cool to be clever -- cleverly strange. Their subject of focus is the amplified tuba. Mark Daumen's funky bass delivery on this oversized brass instrument is the bulk behind Power Pack Horse Crunch, although arena-sized guitar riffs, organ, accordions, and assorted horn arrangements also make way for a funny kind of rock & roll. From the sunny harmonies and crunchy guitar licks of "Danielle" to the funky shimmy of "Spanish Cucumber," SNMNMNM don't get too carried away in celebrating their geekiness. Nerds have feelings too, but the glory of Power Pack Horse Crunch is how the band looks to the flip side. "The Girl Who Laughs Too Much" and "Hollywood" find SNMNMNM nursing wounds of heartbreaks past, and while such themes are bittersweet, SNMNMNM maintain their cool factor and give indie rock new direction in the process. ~ MacKenzie Wilson
SNMNMNM Review from Keyboard Magazine It's not often you see a band with a lead accordion player, even more rare with a tuba player instead of the traditional bass guitar. SNMNMNM breaks the mold with fun pop showing traces of Brian Wilson and Ben Folds without being derivative. It's amazing how heavy the tuba sounds on the bottom end; coupled with three-part harmonies and electric ...
