Mimi received her training at The Juilliard School of Music. Although her major was piano, she had a secondary major in violin and ensemble work. She has performed concerts at Steinway Hall, Lincoln Center and many universities. She toured Europe and Hong Kong and received a scholarship to study with Paul Hindemith's favorite pianist Jane Carlson at L'Ecole Hindemith in Vevey, Switzerland.Mimi, however, loves to sing. Her claim to fame is having sung the National Anthem for the A's, the Giants, the Warriors and the California Angels. To accompany her singing, Mimi picked up the guitar when she was 16 and found that she could finger-pick, much to the dismay of many of her friends who were actually trying to accomplish that skill through tons of practice. As a solo artist, she's opened for the likes of Bobby Weir, Dan Hicks and Nils Lofgren. | | Rosanne Cash List CD (2009)
Mimi Chen & The Blend
$11.99 After the dark and chilling themes of 2006's BLACK CADILLAC, which saw Rosanne Cash dealing with the deaths of her mother, Vivian Liberto, her father, Johnny Cash, and her stepmother, June Carter Cash -- all of whom passed within a two-year span -- one might assume that her next project would move into an even deeper level of bleakness, but with THE LIST, it's immediately clear that she has instead found a more measured place to stand. It's a lovely and redemptive outing that looks back to go forward. When Cash turned 18, her father, alarmed that his daughter only knew the songs that were getting played on the radio, gave her a list of what he considered 100 essential American songs; Cash kept that list, and now she's drawn on it for this wonderfully nuanced outing that brims with a kind of redemptive timelessness. THE LIST is a renewal and a testament ...

Mimi Chen & The Blend
$6.75 A surprise best-seller when it was first released, this mostly improvised pairing of singer/keyboardist/producer Al Kooper with two major guitar heroes of the day sounds fascinating all these years later precisely because of the distance of time--nobody makes records like this any more. The material runs the gamut from folk pop (covers of Donovan and Dylan), to blues ("Albert's Shuffle," "You Don't Love Me"), to heady jams ("His Holy Modal Majesty"), to big-band jazz ("Harvey's Tune").
All the tunes make effective templates for the kind off-the-cuff music-making that in less capable hands might have ...

REVIEWS'From the land of dot coms and um, Smashmouth, it's a refreshing thing to put in the new disc by San Jose's own Lisa Dewey and experience something completely different. "Weather Changer Girl" evokes a sound pleasantly melodic and hypnotic, yet at the same time with a strong delivery and sometime growl that holds the pace. Opening track "Watching Her Fingers" launches the album with a dreamy soundscape that would make any Cocteau Twin proud. As a matter of fact, this record ...
