"When the bond between Heaven and Earth is broken, even a prayer is not enough. Only a story can mend it." -The Baal Shem TovOne of today's truly original folk artists, Maggie Simpson weaves her songs, stories, dynamic guitar playing and mesmerizing voice into a performance you won't want to miss. Her music and stories are both powerful and celebratory. Her song writing reveals a complex, sophisticated rhythmic and harmonic sense but springs from a raw innocence that keeps it tuneful and accessible. Simpson has also built a name for herself in the folk world as a performance teacher at Planet Bluegrass' Song School in Colorado. In her own performances she masterfully taps that innate wealth of feeling, expression, nuance and magic that she teaches her students how to access. Maggie offers a rare performance. "Quotes...""Simpson is not your average folkie. Slapping her 12-string guitar for additional percussion, she changes the tempos often. Expressive and unique, her voice slinks around the chords of her guitar with controlled looseness. A solo debut (CD), OK Cafe is a clever hybrid of styles that the listener will find intriguing. Whether she moves into a ballad, slips into a funk-inflected expanse or some ethereal territory, her muse is constantly complex and rewarding."-Dirty Linen Music Magazine, January 2001"That girl can sing. Don't mess around. See her."-Vance Gilbert"Maggie kept me guessing, delighted me, surprised me, taught me, inspired me, and entertained me profoundly... I thought of a 'Big Bad Blues Bully' (a hot ticket on the blues circuit) and realized how this diminutive dryad (Simpson) had just kicked his ass and stole his wallet. -Carl's Harp Talk (Online Blues Newsletter)"...a magnificent clarion voice and a twelve string guitar that never backs down...songs that push human issues and complicated emotions into the realm of instructive parable...and generous helpings of joy."-Pinedale Roundup"The music pours out like there is no tomorrow. The songs are well crafted and musical, but it's the voice that grabs you and wraps them into your heart forever. Maggie sings like she is in a trance. Her smile and charm is unforgettable and her voice will send chills."-Scott Arbough, Music director - KBCO. Boulder CO"Simpson is a soulful, full-of-feeling songwriter."-Denver Post"Maggie walked me through a song I thought I knew. Now the song has so much more room in it; room for wonder and sun to come through. I want to bring every song to her."-David WilcoxFANS"Maggie's spoken/sung acappella piece made me cry. Her stories and music give me hope." - Julia, Laramie, WY."Maggie's passion is great. Her music makes me feel like that moment on a roller coaster at the highest point before it goes down - exciting, energizing! (She is) more talented than any singer I have ever seen." - Shannon B. , R.D. Denver, CO."Watching Maggie is a lesson in learning to be totally free!" - Rebecca B. , Boulder CO."You give me as many or more goose bumps on my arm when you sing as Martin Sexton does." Martin Sexton fan"Maggie's CD accompanies me on my subway/bus commute and puts a spring in my step." - Deborah D. , Boston, MA."The imagery! When she tells a story and then sings the song, that is where she is so remarkable." - Breeana P., The Arts Ok Cafe Music | List Price | $20.97 (You save $4.52) | | Category | Folk Albums | | Label | Broken | | Orig Year | 1999 | | CD Universe Part number | 7130980 | | Discs | 1 | | Release Date | Mar 25, 2003 | | Studio/Live | Studio | | Mono/Stereo | Stereo | | Recording Time | 55 minutes |

$18.99 Coleraine Road is:Rosemary Caine: harp and vocalsRosemary hails from Ardee in County Louth, Ireland. She performed at Bonratty Castle in Ireland while a young woman and has never looked back. She owned a very successful bridal shop in Massachusetts for many years but has now given it all up to focus on the harp. Her daughter has also taken to the harp and they perform together quite often. Rosemary is happiest when she has 6 places to be all in one day, 3 of which are at the same time, and none of which are closer than 30 miles to each other. Believe itor not, she pulls it off every time!Don Calsyn: fiddle, mandolin, guitar and vocalsDon came to New England via Illinois, Texas and Missouri. He began playing the guitar in college and the rest, as they say, is History 101. He also plays banjo, fiddle, mandolin, bozouki, bodrhan and whatever else you put in front of him. He keeps us all in stitches (actually groans) with his "punny" sense of humor. He is JanSound Studios and did all the recording and mixing for the CD. Karmin Calsyn: fluteKarmin came with her dad, Don, to New England. She played the flute in high school. Karmin was recruited by Don to join the band after our whistle/bagpipe player movedaway. This was just a few months before our trip to Ireland to play at a wedding in a castle. She caught on to the tin whistle and became a great asset to the band.Corki Demers: guitar and vocalsCorki is a native New Englander, still living in the town where she was born. She was extremely involved in music in high school and picked up the guitar just so she wasn'talways looking for someone to accompany her when asked to sing at weddings, funerals, etc. She did not know 1 Irish tune when she joined the band (not even Danny Boy). Now sheis totally hooked on the music and addicted to the fun! Her husband and 3 kids wonder if there is a "12 Step" program set up yet and if they will ever have a steady supply of clean socks again. Jim Ferry: bass and vocalsJim was born and raised in New Jersey. He has been in a few bands playing guitar and bass. He came to New England to enjoy the laid-back way of life. Actually, he would enjoy it if he had a spare minute between running his three daughters to preschool, kindergarten, dance, gymnastics and running himself all over Massachusetts as a socialworker. Jim has played Irish ...

Ok Cafe songs
$20.29 james donal faulkner grew up in a mixed Anglo-Saxon/Celtic environment in northern England and was fortunate to get a faint echo of the old Gaelic world from his education with the Irish Christian Brothers. (He has dual British and Irish nationality). Gregorian chant in Latin constituted the bulk of his musical education as a child. Partly because of this, plus the fact that he grew up in a media-(and heat-) free home, he largely escaped pop music as a teenager. Instead, he frequented the revival folk clubs, legion at the time in the pubs of the north of England. That fertile environment provided his first opportunity to learn and sing ...
