| | Dudes Nothing But The Truth CD Dudes Discography of CDs
You may be hard pressed to find a specific musical genre in which to place THE DUDES. Their music is as diverse as the culture of the Southwest, running the gauntlet from Blues, R&B, Rock, Roots, Cajun and even Bluegrass. Perhaps the correct genre is simply THE DUDES. The songwriting duo of "The Reverend" Don Merritt and Stevie DuPree started practicing their craft in 1973 and continued to turn out award winning compositions until 1980. They walked away from the music industry until the Spring of 2003 and have returned with a vengeance. The CD "Nothing But The Truth", released in June of 2004, is a prime example of the full spectrum of musical styles that THE DUDES embrace. We hope you will enjoy this music as much as THE DUDES enjoyed creating it. Good God, Ya'll !!! A legendary figure from the golden age of soul who first emerged in the late '50s, Dan Penn is best known as a songwriter, having penned such classics as "Cry Like A Baby," "I'm Your Puppet" and "Do Right Woman, Do Right Man." Here, on ten superb arrangements, Dan Penn demonstrates that there's a world of difference between ...

| | Hot Flashes: Rare High Quality Short Lived Bands CD (2006)
Nothing But The Truth songs
$12.89 Vintage Musical Productions does it again! Hot Flashes: Rare High Quality Short Lived Bands features the now-underground jazz of the 1920s and '30s. The tunes collected here are mostly by acts that cut only a couple of sides and disappeared into the ether of musical history. The only exception is the KXYZ Novelty Band who cut six of the sides here. The compelling thing about them is that none of their tunes were the least bit "novelty." These are all hard-blowing early good-time trad jazz played by bands who understood the formulations of W.C. Handy, Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, and King Oliver, as well as the other sounds of Dixieland. Check out the wailing blues of the "Greasy Plate Stomp" by Trombone Red & His Blue Six, or the hard strut of "Deep Henderson" by Charlie Skeete, or even the killer "One 'O Clock Blues," by Joe Tibbs & His Connies Inn Orchestra. There is fine music galore here for any vintage jazz fan, and most of these cuts have never seen the light of day on CD before. ~ Thom Jurek
This collection covers very rare short lived bands. In many instances these bands only made ...
| | Melissa Martin and the Mighty R On The Mark CD (2003)
Nothing But The Truth album
$18.99 "The first time I heard Melissa Martin and the Mighty Rhythm Kings ("MRK") was at a small club in my hometown, West Chester, Pennsylvania. To tell the truth, I actually heard them through some open second floor windows as I walked by outside. I stopped and stood there, glued to the pavement just to hear the rest of a scorching version of Louis Jordan's "Let The Good Times Roll". Now I'm a sucker for a band with a great female vocalist, so before the drummer could count in the next tune I was inside and making my way upstairs.Keep in mind, it's Thursday night in a small town about thirty miles outside of Philadelphia but the scene was classic. A long narrow bar room with just enough smoky haze for atmosphere, every table and bar stool filled, people tapping their feet and rapping their fingers and at the far end of the room a five foot ten blonde and her wailing band are playing a rockin' old Etta James number and man, I'm a fan. It happened that fast!Inspired by the great Blues singers, shouters and players that played and recorded in California in the late Forties and Fifties Melissa Martin and the Mighty Rhythm Kings have been playing Blues, Jump Blues and R&B in the West Coast tradition for the past seven years. They are a smokin' six (occasionally seven) piece band fronted by one of the most potent voices on the Philly Blues scene today.Though there have been changes over the years, (keyboard players have come and gone; there have been four sax players) defying the odds, the three founding members are still playing together. Vocalist Melissa Martin, guitarist David Sagherian, drummer Robin "The Big Beat" Poggi are now joined by the talents of piano player and vocalist Paul Matecki, guitarist Neil "Porkroll" Taylor, and bassist Jeff Michael. On special occasions the band is augmented by tenor sax man Mark Coffey. The five "Kings" have years of live experience behind them. Take the second to none rhythm section--drummer Robin "The Big Beat" Poggi kept the beat for Del Chester and his House Rockers until the bands demise in 1995. Bassist Jeff Michael brings his upright to the band after years of service with a variety of jazz and ...
