| | Oscar Peterson Porgy And Bess CD (1976)
I Hear Music
$8.75 Digitally remastered by Phil De Lancie (1994, Fantasy Studios, Berkeley, California).
Few works in the Amreican canon have consistently inspired players and listeners like PORGY AND BESS. And while aspects of the libretto--with its condescending, paternalistic overtones--are a sorry reminder of a less enlightened time in American history, the depth of affection and craft in Gershwin's Twentieth Century opera is timeless, genderless and colorless.
The orchestral collaborations of Miles Davis and Gil Evans breathed new life into this work, and their PORGY AND BESS remains among the most beloved works in jazz history. But with the CD release of this 1976 Norman Granz production, Oscar Peterson and Joe Pass offer us a definitive new instrumental rendition of PORGY AND BESS--as intimate ...
| | Next Big Thing Radiate CD (2002)
I Hear Music
$12.55 "It's been a long time since I heard rock and roll that I liked. This is a hit!" Those were the words of Grammy-nominated artist/producer/songwriter Wyclef Jean when he heard the music of Next Big Thing. This New York/New Jersey band with the tongue-in-cheek moniker has forged a sound that is modern, yet fully aware of its roots. From the raw, punky energy of "In the Stars," to the Britpop-inspired title track, "Radiate," to the sweet harmonies and vocal interplay of "Ferris Wheel," the eleven tracks of Next Big Thing's first full-length release, "Radiate," do just that.Founded by vocalist-guitarists Shawn Moynihan and Alan Miller, and joined by drummer Lou Iacobelli and bassist-vocalist Gautam Peri, Next Big Thing combines elements of modern rock, Brit-pop, and classic rock with high-caliber songwriting skills that have been recognized four times by the Billboard National Songwriting Competition. In addition to headlining ...
