| | Earl Oliver Skunk Train Blues CD Earl Oliver Discography of CDs
From the rugged North coast of California comes the music of Earl Oliver & Butch Kwan. Before moving to the Mendocino Coast, Earl Oliver had a distinguished career as a band leader, concert and recording producer, street entertainer and studio musician. As "The Walkin' Blues Man", Oliver was a familiar figure in parades and other outdoor events throughout Northern California. As the driving force behind several important bands over the past 30 years, Butch Kwan is a legend on the North Coast music scene. A popular teacher of both guitar and violin, Kwan has been featured with the Symphony of the Redwoods, and teaches violin to kids every year at Mendocino County's famous Lark Music Camp.Oliver & Kwan met in February of 2004 at a charity concert event. Their immediate chemistry produced a partnership. They have since gone on to appear at the 2004 and 2006 Caspar World Folk Festival, Art in the Gardens at the North Coast Botanical Gardens, and Fort Bragg's World's Largest Salmon BarBQ anually since 2005, and headlined the 12th annual "Local Licks Live" concert sponsored by KOZT-95.3 FM, affectionately known locally as "The Coast".In April, 2005, The Walkin' Blues Man was hired to entertain passengers on the historic Skunk Train, which departs from Ft. Bragg and Willits, CA, each day. This album was produced specifically because Earl wanted a CD to offer to passengers on the train, and it therefore leans decidedly toward the "Old Timey" side of the repertoire. Regardless, the formidable combination of Oliver's "big" voice and dramatic delivery and Kwan's exquisite instrumentation make for some very exciting musical moments. We think you will agree... Skunk Train Blues
$13.85 Despite his statement in the liner notes that "In an era where it is best to play it safe, I chose to take a risk...," there isn't much surprising or risky about young guitarist Joe Bonamassa's fifth studio album. Most of his previous releases have mixed blues covers with his own originals, all played with a rocker's attitude, volume and less-than-subtle approach. This one follows suit and even though he goes on to say that he "wanted to make a blues album, not a rock album that has blues on it," as in the past; it's impossible to claim that he has succeeded with You & Me. That doesn't make this a bad or disappointing disc; quite the contrary, it's a solid blues-rock release and arguably his best work to date. But as early as the second track, an original rocker titled "Bridge to Better Days," Bonamassa takes off on an early Free/Savoy Brown-styled stomper. Things settle down and get more rootsy on the following two slow blues tracks, although a lovely Bonamassa original, "Asking Around for You," adds strings, not exactly a touch most would associate with pure blues. Regardless, it's extremely effective ...

$14.49 J.J. Cale is perhaps best known for penning hits for Eric Clapton, including "Cocaine" and "Midnight Hour," yet he's also an accomplished and extremely talented songwriter and guitarist. While no one ever declared, "Cale is God," Clapton clearly has always thought highly of him, and in 2006, the Clapton/Cale mutual admiration society finally made its way into the studio.
The result is 14 songs' worth of the relaxed blues hybrid that Cale built his career around and that earned ...

| | Pat Carr Put Yourself In My Place CD (2005)
Skunk Train Blues
$12.65 Patrick W. Carr loves to play the Blues. Traditional style electric blues, acoustic Delta and gospel blues, and edgy blues-rock all flow from the heart, soul, and fingers of this veteran player. He uses a guitar style described as “emotionally charged” and likened to Eric Clapton and Mark Knopfler, and a vocal style ranging from soulful and subtle to raw and bluesy to relate experiences of loves and lost loves, mean women, happiness and pain, rejection and redemption – often with a little subtle humor.Born in Louisiana and musically raised on the streets of the French Quarter, Pat’s Southern roots contributed a variety of musical influences including blues, rock, soul, jazz, Cajun, country, bluegrass, and gospel music. Early training included piano, guitar, and singing in church choirs. He also plays bass and mandolin, and plays all instruments on many of his recordings. Not limited to blues, some of Pat’s songs cross genres into rock, soul, country-gospel, and even a little jazz. His CD “Put Yourself In My Place” is a collection as diverse as the influences that inspired the songs: from the gospel blues of Blind Willie Johnson to New Orleans soul; ...
