Gary Callahan was born in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, Canada.When he was ten years old he moved to Stephenville Newfoundland with his parents.He started playing music at a very young age and as soon as he was old enough he headed out to Alberta, Canada where he played in several bands for a number of years.He yearned to be home in Newfoundland where most of his family still lived so he made the move in the early 90s.He moved to Grand Falls-Windsor where he met a songwriter, Everett Adams,who wrote songs that suited Gary's style of singing.Gary and Everett collaborated on two recordings, After the Rain and Death on the Ice.This recording After the Rain is a traditional country/bluegrass collection of songs.Eight of the songs written by Everett and Gary chipped in with two of his own.One of the songs was included on a mini series on CBC TV a few years ago. In the late 1950s and early 1960s Sorrells Pickard was known as Jimmy Bazzell and the Mardells, Jacksonville, Florida’s first live Rock & Roll band. Little did Sorrells know that while honing his craft at the to-become-famous Forest Inn, where he was mixing traditional country music with the new sound of Rock & Roll, Sorrells was paving the way for all of Jacksonville’s future Southern Rock pioneers, including Lynyrd Skynyrd.
